Chase is a scientist.  He has a little lab and he hardly leaves it. Usually he builds robots (that don't really work). Chase's dream is to be able to create robotic prosthetic limbs that doctor's could use. 

He lost his arm in a really bad explosion from one of his failed prototypes. Because of this, now he is able to test out the newer prototypes on his stub.
