In life Softstrike was a declawed and then abandoned kittypet who found herself in Forestclan territory. They took care of her, helping her recover from living alone. She wanted to repay them, doing tasks around the camp and helping take care of kits. She wanted to do more, though, wanted to patrol and fight alongside the warriors. So she developed her signature Softpaw Style in secret, unveiling it during an invasion of the camp by Cometclan. She defended the medic cave, where all of the noncombatants were sheltering, entirely by herself once their stationed guard went down. She held her own against five Comet warriors, or so she says, for nearly an hour. This event earned her her warrior name, Softstrike, instead of her previous kittypet name. From then on, she taught her style to any cat willing to learn. It eventually became the standard style of both medicats and Cometclan Guardians. Though Guardians adopted her style generations later, after the Comet-Deep split happened and she held no ill will towards Comet cats who used her style any more.
