Born unnaturally beautiful, Psyche was greeted into the world by a mother who saw ahn and a father who was used to following his wife's lead. From a young age, Psyche had been plastered about in magazines and photoshoots thanks to his mother's connections and desire to benefit from his beauty. Naturally, this made his family quite rich, to where his father was even brought into a Wing to work for; meanwhile, his mother acted as his manager, with his two younger sisters allowed to live more ordinary lives.

One of his mother's connections was an older woman known as Aphrodite, a fashion and beauty titan within the City. Truthfully, "Aphrodite" was simply a title, with her real name covered in heaps of security. Nonetheless, she took a keen but jealous interest in Psyche and monitored his progress. (She would later join the Angels of the City, fascinated both by Abigail and the prospect of defeating the Head.)

As Psyche grew older, he internalized feelings of self-hatred over his beauty, namely the fact that others saw him to be used because of it. When he considered harming himself, he would find himself backing down, both out of discomfort and knowing that he would be "fixed right up" if he tried something so drastic.

His two younger sisters soon were married to people they clearly loved, and when he had asked about dating, his mother grinned. Oh, she had plans; she had a number of her connections and newfound celebrity friends who were eager to have their children married to one of the most beautiful people in the City. For several months, he was paraded about, forced into awkward blind dates, and pressured by everyone around him to pick someone to marry.

And so, Psyche fled.

It didn't take long for him to find work, joining an office under the Oufi Association and honing his skills further. He was already used to playing into the media, but it was as a Fixer that he had learned how to fight and be a part of the much darker world his parents had shielded him from. His diplomatic nature and calm demeanor resulted in him becoming quite successful in his work, a couple of years passing by while he lived rather averagely, learning how to fend for himself.

When Limbus Company had arrived to pick him up, he couldn't help but view it as a new experience, not knowing he would be returning to his roots until it was too late.

and then canto thoughts

very close to outis' canto due to their grecian origins (hestia was the exception bc narratively it made sense + i do what i want projmoon), but things lead up to psyche meeting his parents again. turns out, they want to get him married to eros...and a wedding gift from aphrodite would be a golden bough. caught between a rock and a hard place, psyche submits to the plan because of the contractual obligations in place.

however, eros and aphrodite were replaced by fakes; aphrodite herself was replaced by a ring researcher, while eros was an aberration of nothing there (probably nobody is, it'd make sense).

"wait, aren't you shipping him with heathcliff" obviously. i'm going to unhinge y'all like a barn door with this concept: "we're like oil and water" convo, heathcliff deducing that psyche is in danger, and then rushing back to the church. psyche (worried abt heathcliff and lcb not returning yet) saying "i can't" for the vows, heathcliff yelling "I OBJECT" as he kicks the door down. monolith in the wedding cake. nothing is fight. distortions everywhere.

mild canto vi part 2/3 spoilers below

also psyche's mom becomes (an imperfect dough version of) aphrodite psyche, a version of psyche who did marry the real eros, hated being a trophy husband, killed eros and the old aphrodite, and became aphrodite himself (aphropsyche). also he goes around mirror worlds to mentally break other psyches to "ease their pains" by "shattering their delusions" over love and beauty; "nobody's ever loved you, not even that boy. everyone only values you for your beauty."

and then psyche's ego distorts from lust to envy because he's so jealous of those who have never experienced what he has, jealous of those who aren't looked upon as trophies or beauties to be kept on display.

we're talking big marble statue, but instead of the face or clothes, it's butterflies with eyes on them. yes.
