Lee Jeon

Jeon's mother is Japanese and his father is Korean. They met when his father spent a year as an exchange student in Japan, and began a short-term fling with one of his classmates which ended in pregnancy. As a result they had to promptly marry, as his father followed a very conservative lifestyle. During his early years Jeon spent a lot of time travelling between Japan and Korea.

Their marriage was complex and as time passed his father became abusive to his mother, clearly resentful of being forced to marry to maintain his status. She stayed for eight years and then the two went through a divorce, during which his father won custody of Jeon. His mother returned to Japan when it was over, and Jeon kept contact with her through long emails, the only way he maintained his knowledge of Japanese.

The family tradition was for those in the male line to pursue a career of law, and Jeon did this, becoming a successful lawyer from the moment he graduated. Though he had no choice in the career, he feels very passionate about it, as all the complex rules fascinated him and became a special interest. His father cut many corners to get him there, and applied a lot of pressure on him, and as a result Jeon learned that the only place where his true self was welcome was in his emails with his mother. His home life was tense and unhappy, and due to this and his autism he has a great deal of difficulty expressing himself. He feels everything very strongly, but always appears to be uncaring and detached from every situation. 

After his mother contracted a terrible illness and he learned that her life was in danger, he moved to Japan, against his father's wishes and in spite of all his connections getting him access to one of the most prestigious law firms in the world. 

He takes a very long time before he'll trust someone, and once he does, he'll do anything for them. He's fiercely protective, as it's the only way he can successfully show how he cares about someone.
