Overview

For a campaign set in the world of the game Golden Sun(modified for DnD), which also loosely follows the plot of the game.

An eager young halfling hardly ever seen without her companion, a giant badger she calls Pepper. She is always quick to correct someone when they refer to Pepper as a pet, insisting she is instead her best friend. Coming from a humble background, she's self-sufficient, with a fondness for simple things like camping and cooking.

Sophie is outgoing, good-natured, and friendly to everyone she meets. Extremely eager and with a hero complex, she has a tendency to spring into action the moment she hears the word 'help'. She's a notoriously hard worker who never gives up. Her biggest flaw is her impulsivity, rushing into things without looking before she leaps. Not to say she's stupid, but she simply thinks with her heart before she thinks with her head, and when her heart tells her to do something, she listens. She has a slight flair for the theatrical, and her cape is enchanted to dramatically billow as if caught in a strong wind when she wills it to.

Sophie, most of all, is loath to rely on others. In her mind, she's everyone's hero- Everyone's supposed to rely on her, not the other way around. When she feels negative emotions, her solution is to bottle them up and shoulder the burden of them alone. She tries her best to be independent and self-reliant. To keep her mind busy and off of negative thoughts, she's prone to a lot of stress cooking when she's feeling down. If it's bad enough that she can't hide it, she tends to just spend time alone, maybe with Pepper, thinking that it wouldn't do good for the people to see their supposed hero wallowing in sadness.

Sophie stands at three feet and two inches and she has a slim, nimble build. Her skin is light, but sun-kissed, with many freckles dusting her cheeks. Her ginger hair is fluffy, wild and untamed. It's common to see her hair full of tangles and even with leaves and twigs caught it in, and she typically keeps it tied up in a pair of pigtails to keep it out of the way. Her eyes are green. Around her neck, she wears a pendant of a preserved bryony flower on a simple silver chain.

Sophie's primary weapon of choice is the Koliman Bow. A special longbow inherited from her father, and the very same one he took with him on his own adventures, it is blessed by forest spirits and is light as a feather for ease of use. She also carries two short swords she dual wields when enemies get up close and personal.

Backstory

Sophie's parents are Emmett and Bryony Treeclimber, a pair of adventurers and folk heroes who travelled the world together, before eventually settling down in the village of Vale and having their only daughter. Sophie grew up hearing tales of her parents' heroic exploits, and from a young age, she believed that it was her destiny to follow in their footsteps.

While Sophie was never allowed to stray far from Vale, she and Emmett spent a lot of time becoming familiar with the wilds surrounding the village. Emmett was an accomplished ranger, and he took it upon himself to train his daughter, who took to it quite well. She also took the time to learn what magic she could from one of the oldest mages in town, Meriele Landothiel.

Since Sophie couldn't leave to follow her bigger dreams of a world-renowned hero, she spent her time helping the people of Vale with whatever problems they had. While the problems were almost all small things, life in Vale being peaceful and safe, she was still delighted to help anyone she could, and the villagers appreciated having someone they could count on.

Sophie's first moment of true heroism came on her 10th birthday. While exploring the woods, she came upon a badger cub, all alone, her mother having been killed by hunters. Sophie immediately took a shine to the badger cub, and took her home with her, promising the cub she would never be alone again. Since it was her birthday, Sophie's parents allowed her to keep the cub, who she named Pepper. They've been best friends ever since, though Pepper turned out quite a lot bigger than expected.

When Sophie was 16, tragedy struck the village of Vale. Following the appearance of mysterious strangers at Vale's yearly summer festival, during the night, something disturbed the nearby mountain of Mt. Aleph, and a landslide began. Mages from the village did their best to hold off the landslide while Sophie, her closest non-badger friend, Theo, Meriele's granddaughter, Kallone, and a newcomer from the distant town of Imil, Eirlyss, did their best to evacuate the villagers to safety. Meriele soon sacrificed herself, using the last of her magic to eliminate the worst of the landslide. Meriele's efforts weren't quite enough, however, and many villagers were lost, Emmett being among them.

Three years later, Sophie and the others having all moved on after the tragedy in their own ways, the group is tricked by a strange group of people into leading them to the depths of the Sol Sanctum, a temple built into Mt. Aleph, and stole all but one of the Elemental Stars, strange artifacts said to be the source of all magic, while kidnapping Ke'ala, a friend of the party's. Sophie, Theo, Kallone and Eirlyss have been tasked with saving Ke'ala, and stopping that strange group of people from relighting the Elemental Lighthouses across the land.
