Akira Kazumi

History

Early Life

Akira was raised by his father and his mother. Years later, his younger brother was born and his mother moved away. Akira spent a lot at his school alone. Atsushi, his own father, wants him to pursue a career as a Poison Tester. But he made multiple mistakes and did bad things to follow through.

Because of his dangerous actions, his classmates started avoiding him due to their fear of getting hurt. One of his classmates started spreading false rumors about him, this led to him getting suspended from the school.

Akira was later scouted for Hope's Peak Academy's Class 78th, as the Ultimate Poison Tester.

The Tragedy

During The Tragedy, Jin Kirigiri, the Headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy, planned to seal the school building and let the students live forever inside the Academy. This was a misguided attempt to save humanity's final fragments of hope; Jin planned for the remaining students to help rebuild the world. The students of Class 78th agreed to his plan and sealed themselves inside the academy. Akira was seen to be sealing the windows. The students lived peacefully inside the building for a year without knowing that the Ultimate Despair was planning to destroy them.

Killing School Life

Akira was among those who were chosen to attend Hope's Peak Academy as part of Class 78th. Class 78th ended up being trapped inside the school, not knowing at the time that they had already been memory-wiped of their two years of school life together. 

During his introduction, Akira expressed that people shouldn’t be near him due to his dangerous talent as the Ultimate Poison Tester.

The students soon became forced into the Killing Game. As an incentive to murder in order to escape, the students were each given a DVD featuring a video from Monokuma which implied that their loved ones were in danger. Akira’s video featured his brother as well as his father, Atsushi, who is taking care of his brother in the hospital.

Personality

Akira is introverted and dislikes interacting with others. He immerses himself in something he likes and doesn't care what other people think about him. Although he is introverted, he is not unkind, and is usually willing to help others. He is a straightforward person and speaks bluntly. His cold, detached demeanor comes from his fear of hurting and dragging down those around him. Because of his talent, rumors about him have previously spread throughout school, most of which claiming him to be dangerous.

While he cares for his friends deeply, he is not afraid to be tough on them when he feels it's necessary. He does not give praise often, and when he does, it's usually short and frank. He takes others' words very seriously, which leads him to be stressed out a lot.

During Akira’s school life, he had to test out poisons. So, due to his risky activities, his classmates grew to dislike being near him and pushed him away. Akira eventually decided that he would do experiments on his own. Prior to joining Hope’s Peak Academy, he was kicked out from his school due to his talent that can harm others.
