Vore (Phylactery)

Profile

The phylactery of Vore is an unusual oblong mechanism that is small enough to be comfortably held in a hand. It is made up of an unknown metal, and covered in raised iconography that depicts a number of disturbing expressions. Most of these expressions pretain to consumption, relying on heavy emphasis of the mouth and lips. Along with the revenant itself, the object's place of origin is unknown, and what culture of people created the strange object - and for what purpose - is yet to be determined.

Unlike other phylacterys that exist only to house and anchor the soul, this phylactery is crucial to the function of the revenant. Under normal circumstances the object completely refuses to open - the teeth seemingly fused together tightly. What determines when the teeth will release, allowing it to be opened, is completely unknown. When the phylactery is opened, a needle-like blade is revealed. If this blade punctures - even lightly scrapes - the flesh of a mortal, the blade will then retreat into the end it is mounted in. If the phylactery promptly closed, the revenant will materialize.

Vore will relentlessly hunt the marked target. If the marked target has been consumed, Vore will then begin hunting any other entity in the vicinity that is not making contact with the phylactery or its holder. Complexities akin to the phylactery's designs may materialize on Vore the longer it is active without having devoured part of another entity. If the phylactery is opened while the revenant is active, the revenant will instantly dematerialize, resetting the mechanism for another target. If these patterns have fully formed on its body, Vore cannot be forced to reset unless the phylactery is brought out of its tether radius.
