Cadaver could be described as a living family heirloom. Passed down throughout the generations of the noble House of Retinual, a family with a long bloodline of necromancers, Cadaver has been serving them as a skeletal butler for as long as he can remember. However, through a freak magic accident (or was it?) the man and woman he was indebted to this generation perished, their mansion burnt down in a massive fire, leaving him serving and in with custody of their now orphaned daughter, Elizabeth Retinual, an excitable and slightly feral little girl. Another issue is that said orphan doesn't know she's an orphan now, and for all she knows she's on a fun adventure out of the house accompanied by her dad's skeleton servant who she insists on calling "Bones McJones." He doesn't know how to break the news to her. He doesn't know if he's fully accepted it himself.
Cadaver is a very prim and proper man, as far as skeletons go. He is polite, fairly chivalrous, and it's hard to make him lose his temper- though he enjoys being passive-aggressive, as a guilty pleasure. He is quite fond of fancy clothes and jewelry, and likes to indulge in the finer aspects of life when he gets the chance. Since fleeing the burning mansion, he's a bit of a fish out of water; a walking talking corpse in a world unwelcoming of necromantic magic, a lost butler with nobody to serve, a servant free for the first time he can ever recall being.
During the house fire, he lost his jaw, leaving him without the bottom half of his mouth. It doesn't especially affect him or how he speaks, however, so he isn't really upset about it, besides thinking he looks slightly silly.
