Flynn and her older brother Arlow were born to Beau and Leo Helder. Their mother, Beau, was the Jarl of their city of Snowbush and their father, Leo, was for the most part a stay-at-home dad. Leo didn't talk much about his past. All of his stories were pulled from after he moved up north and met Beau. Flynn and Arlow didn't even know his last name, they had taken their mom’s.
What added to the mystery of their dad was his disappearance. When Flynn was 10 and Arlow was 13, their dad vanished. They asked their mom what happened, but she always said she never knew. They went to their Uncle Bryn, but they also said they had no clue. What was weird is that, for two people who are good at getting things done when things need to get done, Beau and Byrn seemed to not want to touch Leo’s disappearance. Flynn and Arlow decided to drop the subject with their mama and their uncle, but their curiosity was not quelled.
They grew up and honed their skills until they felt as if they were good enough to leave on their own. After a few months of planning, Flynn and her brother decided to leave Snowbush in search of Leo. Now 19 and 22, they decided they were old enough to know what they wanted to do. They left without telling Beau or Bryn, but left a note so they knew they didn't vanish out of thin air. They had never left Snowbush without any adults with them, and they were not about to realize that it was harder to get around without them.
After a bad run-in with some people, Arlow all but carried Flynn to the nearest city, Valharbor. Getting more than he could hope for, he ran into his Uncle Rose and Aunt Ayda on the streets. He rushed over to them, begging for help. Ayda took Flynn into her arms and started healing her, while Rose sat down with Arlow and asked him what happened. Arlow stressed that he didn't want his mother to know where they were and what had happened as he told the story.
Uncle Rose told Arlow that he and Flynn could stay with them at their new guild of sorts while they rested up. Ayda explained that the place they’re running now might be able to help them out with what they're searching for, as long as they put in the work to help others as well. That way, they can build the skills and resources and relationships needed to get big jobs done, all while they’ll be in the care of someone trustworthy.
Upon returning to the guild, Arlow and Flynn were placed in Rose’s room. When she woke up, Arlow explained everything to her. They agreed to stay, relieved to have been picked up by family in some twist of fate.
