Lore note

** yes, in the lore he comes back “alive” but he is exactly the age he was when he died. Shiki and Danny can interact since Danny is also SELF AWARE he is an alter. He doesn’t understand it but he is doing his best. Shiki understanding himself as an alter has made Danny’s death less painful knowing that his host was able to create him to be part of the system but He isn’t added into the list of alters in all AUs so keep that in mind.

Profile

He/Him, 32 (when he died), human

————-

Daniel (Danny) was Shiki's beloved father, whom he was very close to since a young age. Danny was a loving and protective parent, always providing Shiki with the support and guidance he needed. They worked on cars together, went on camping trips and other things.

He lived all his life in the same home as his wife and kids (excluding Ren), and life was good for the most part. Danny and his wife never argued but the aftermath of his death sent everyone into a spiral.

After his "death"

Unfortunately, tragedy struck when Daniel was diagnosed with cancer and passed away when Shiki was a teenager and still in need of his father's guidance.

In Shiki's headspace after he is aware he is an alter in his hosts mind, he is able to communicate with his father again, who remains at the same age that he was when he passed away and acts as a source of comfort and wisdom for Shiki and his daughter, Hazel.

Through this connection, Shiki  learns more about his father and his role in the family.

Over time, as Shiki starts to come to terms with what happened, he makes peace with his father's memory but still acts like a child around him sometimes since his father is just as he remembers him when he last saw his father when he was a teen.

Headcanons/facts:

  • Daniel's laid-back personality and his way with words made him a comfort to those around him and created an atmosphere of kindness and understanding.
  • He knows of Shiki's job. He doesn't hate on his son for it, he does feel guilty that his death pushed his son into this type of thing, (yes he blames himself for his wife's abuse that's why he says he feels guilty) but he always cares about him enough to never pass his judgement
  • Danny was gay, a fact that was known to his wife. However, he really wanted a family and was willing to have children with his wife despite the fact that she knew he wasn't attracted to her.
  • He has a VERY strong father sense and will usually take in anyone who needs the support so he is a literal "dad friend" to almost everyone he knows
  • Always wants to spend time with his kids even if they are now adults he still sees them as kids thanks to the time skip
  • Is pretty dumb when it comes to the internet
  • Comments on Shiki's instagram asking what things mean, he doesn't know what most suggestive new words are. Has been caught asking what "Gyatt" means (HELP LMAO)
  • His wife had always known about his sexual orientation, and it had an impact on their marriage that may have led to the abuse she caused towards Shiki after Daniel passed away. Daniel still loved his family and wasn't ashamed of who he was. He just wished things could have been different.
  • Danny loves his son and just like a good father, always supports him even when he acts a little immature.
  • A lot of people say the smoking habit that Shiki developed came from his dad, he tried to keep it away from his family, but he was smoking since he was 10
  • In Shiki's inner world, Danny is the constant father figure he never had in his life but also the one who is there by his side and can help him with whatever he needs, encouraging growth and allowing him to become the person he never could in the real world.
  • Despite a loving marriage, Daniel's wife changed after he passed away and took out her grief on both Shiki and Hazel. This led to a lot of pain and hardship for the family, especially Shiki.
  • After everything that happened after he passed away, Daniel doesn't regret getting married because he loved his children and wanted a family. He only regrets what his wife did to them when he was no longer there to protect them.
  • Daniel always had a way with words and used endearing nicknames like "sweetheart," "dear," "doll," and "honey" for the people he met.
  • Daniel was close to his daughter Hazel but their personalities sometimes clashed, due to his protective nature. But deep down they loved each other dearly.
  • He was a loving and devoted parent, always providing Shiki and Hazel with the comfort and support they needed.
  • He had a love for music and played a variety of instruments. When he wasn't working, he loved to spend time playing and composing music.
  • Daniel and his wife loved to travel and enjoyed exploring the world together when things were better
  • Despite his protective nature, Daniel was also a very fun and playful parent. He loved to make his children laugh and enjoyed coming up with funny games they could play together.
