Saltpaw is a lanky tom with a long, sleek coat that has been meticulously groomed. He is tall for a cat of his age, with gangly legs that seem disproportionate to the rest of his body, though he will eventually grow into them. His fur is a stormy blue-gray tone that is reminiscent of rough ocean waves, and his eyes are a delicate baby blue. Boyish freckles of dark and light gray are smattered across his face and haunches. Salt is often fawned over by the queens due to his appearance, who can’t help but dote on him when he crosses their paths. He is typically seen with a polite smile, though he’s not one to hide his emotions and can become quite expressive when feeling moody.

Saltpaw is a rather guarded feline at heart. He comes off as very polite and down-to-earth, taking measures to be very respectful to his clanmates. Above all, he values his ability to serve his loved ones, finding strength in protecting his clan, which makes him a dutiful apprentice. He displays an aura of quiet warmth—handsome, unassuming, slightly nervous—which tends to draw other cats, particularly mollies, to him. In social settings, Salt prefers to remain reserved, quietly observing rather than attempting to be the center of attention.

Despite his courteous behavior, Salt holds an inner belief that he is superior to some of his clanmates. This belief is derived from his high intelligence & critical thinking skills, combined with an overprotective nature and fiercely independent streak. He is skeptical of and often doubts others’ opinions. Salt believes he can do everything on his own, and often rejects help even when he needs it, even going so far as to take cats’ offers as insults. When others doubt his abilities, Salt becomes very sarcastic and passive-aggressive. He develops many rivalries due to his sharp tongue. He’s known for being quite the smartass, his attitude often getting in the way of making friends with softer felines.

When frustrated, Saltpaw has a tendency to become very immature and downright whiny. He never takes his frustrations out on other cats in a violent way, but will complain endlessly until he gets what he wants. Salt most commonly becomes embittered when his clanmates reject his offers to help or attempt to tell him what to do, as he views himself as a caretaker and his ego is hurt whenever unable to fill this role. He is very sensitive and will become quite emotional when rejected by others. Salt can occasionally also smother the cats that he believes he needs to protect, and may become confused when they grow frustrated with him.

Saltpaw fears letting the cats he believes he needs to protect down more than anything. He keeps his fears close to his heart, rarely expressing them out loud. He shows love through actions more than words, and dislikes talking about his feelings. Salt also struggles with understanding himself since he tries to sacrifice himself so much for others. He is unable to understand and accept the fact that he is gay until moons into his warriorship. He will try and force himself to crush on mollies, enjoying their presence, but becomes very fearful whenever they initiate anything with him. Salt’s fear of letting others down leads to him becoming trapped in relationships that he doesn’t want to be in, leading him to seem unhappy and disinterested in female partners.
