"Is that... really the most creative thing you can think of...?"

....Just has to trust in the nature of the deal... the lines between dream, memory, and reality can be blurry... for all she knows, she could still be dreaming...

Symphony
[Her words to stay themselves as well.]

She could at least be someone's savior. Her life, for two others? A fair deal.

But wait, there's more!
.... this one didn't exactly last too long.
I didn't think my birds could get screwed over any worse than they already have been...
Boy, was I wrong.

Appearance

Was unaffected by Aurem's kenku to aur'Ku spell, and thus, remains a kenku.

Missing an eye as per Aurem's deal.

Attire

Wears simple elven clothing, either the cloak or a scarf, and as always wears collected feathers. Often has her lute or a short sword or rapier with her as well, and would try to keep a health potion on her at all times.

Elven Cloak: Yellow? elven cloak gifted to her...

Drawn Outfit: A new lock of golden elven hair. Alayla's, of course.

Personality

Initially: Sure of her morals and embracing the shimmer of independence that Phoenix Feather brought out in her.
Defiant and damn-near fearless, she possesses an uncanny resolve that was only further fueled by Aurem's torment of her.

By The End: She is a broken bird :(

Dislikes:

  • Being silenced in any way.
  • Taking orders. If you want her to do something, you'd better ask nicely.

Goals (Interlude)

  • Do something about this whole Aurem situation.

Goals (Onward)

  • Be a good mother and be a good person.
  • Improve her musical skill; write moving pieces that will last indefinitely.
  • Be a good bard; share her original scores, learn the songs of others and pass those from person to person as well, and use her kenku forgery to copy and share the written work of others.
  • Spread the stories of her other iterations, party members, and flock mates.

Stats

Changes from Zeta: She has none of Zeta's equipment. None. No armor either.

Equipment:

  • Short sword
  • simple elven lute.
  • Is given a dream catcher holy symbol
  • Is given an elven cloak of protection and other things
Knowledge: She learns how to read music from Song and works to improve her skill.

Aurem's Deal: Savior cannot, and will never willingly break this contract, no matter what. Put a knife to her throat; put a knife to her child's throat; it doesn't matter. Whatever Aurem would do is far worse than wherever you could ever think to do.

Story

Bit of a warning, this bird is put throguh hell. I dont include anything too graphic, but still.

Interlude

Her split is after she obtained the ring of three wishes. Not long after though, before she arranged her new flock. some nebulous time there.

Savior never got as far as Zeta or Loyalty; instea,d she worked up the courage tot ake matters into her own hands, and leave. during some mission she slipped away, using her second wish to wish away anything that could alow Aurem to track her. Aurem... allowed this. Andf literally evetything on ehr person- includng the ring- vanished, as did the eye that had been dreamt into ehr chest. So, she stole some stuff from some downed elves, and ran.

Follwing a path, she came across a camp of a few elves, who though wary, allowed her to join them by the fire. The older one spoe of giving people second chances, and had one of them craft her a simple drum to play. She played them a bit of music, told a story or two, and they agreed tot ake her to a town.

Naturally.. the town full of elves didn't much care for her, and she understood that. they ahd every right to hate her. She was taken tot he elder who (On the first go around out right murdered song because she refused to resist) layed out the orice for redemption; basicaly, for four days, she was tortuered and tormented by the townspeople if they desired to do so. and, uh, who kenw that admitting to your kill count would really piss them off.

Then things got worse. Aurem tormented her dreams, placing an excessive amount of geases on her, and offeirng her a choice; give up now, tell ehr where she is... and she could be forgiven. Savor refused in the most incedible way possible: "Is that... the most creative thing you can think of?" It hadn't been. And good god did Savor pay for that comment... but it was worth it.
four days of absooute hell wherein Aurem, through geases, wouldn't alow Savior to get a longrest. She got to the point where anothe rlvel of exhastion would have killed her before this whole thing was over.

except, it really wasn't over.
"I wish you would fall in love witht he first elf you see."
And that first elf was Alayla, a cleric. r, nurse, or, something.
Alayla gave Savor a lute, and later, a place to stay, seemngly enamoured by Savor for some reason. That reaosn was probably a wish too, but Savor didnt have the heart to tell her. And this continued for  abit until Alayla took notice of the dreams and geases and Savor explained.

Alayla took her to a rpeist who became enamored with Savor's defiance. They gave her a dream catcher holy symbol to help witht he dreams and the placment of enw geases, and got sme pals to rid her of the current ones. And in egneral, the elves.. didn't treat ehr all that badly, to ehr suorise. they really did beleive in second chances, and she wasn't going to let this one go to waste; she did odd jobs, helped Alayla keep up her home, played music at the tevern, and wrote he rown epcies.
She caught everyone's eye and reminded evryone of an old story, in which a kenu would lead one of each race of this plane to defeat Aurem... and, it was very tempting. She and Alaya began to rpepare for this adventure, and amid this, Savor wrote a song, a real complicated one, that tells of her stry fo defiance. It was a hit.
This story is what propted some elves to call her 'savior' in elven. They really started to belive in her.

But one night, Aurem made a new threat.
"Tomorrow, remove that charm of yours and apologise, or else..." But this 'ore else' was different.'I will out you through something that even with your creativity, you can not imagine.' And that scared the shit out of Savor... but she wasn't going to give up. She refused tor emove the charm...

She awoke tot he sound of a gate spell triggering. She leapt to her feet, and... it wasn't kenku. it was Aurem herself dragging her ass back; Savor got a disosnant whispers off, but it didnt matter. One pretrfying eye ray later, and it was all over.
Savior awoke in the outdoor aphitheatre, and.. well, was put through hell. Through a dominate person spell, she was forced to murder everyone she had any cnnection to; Jules, Alayla, flockmates... ot was not pleasant. But that wasn't it.
"I wish that you could only speak if I allow you." She was silenced, but kept her creativity.
Savior was imprissoned, and, well... her geentics doome dher. she was used as breeding stock until she wa sno longer useful. Then, perhaos her soul was ut into some artifact, like the ohenix swords, or, some beholder-kin monstrasity...

She could only wish that one day, she would wake up form this horrible nightmare...

And one day, she did. Cackling, Aurem offered her a deal.
Savior didn't even listen to the details. she acdepted. anything to not have theat happen again, to avoid a life time of torture, to save her friends, anything to prevent that.
Her will was shattered. She awoke, missing an eye a ser the deal, and missing that defiant spark.
She was not the same bird that she was before. She never would be.
Defiance was futile. She wasn't their 'savior,' and no one could be.

She lived. But at what cost? AS per the deal, Aurem left her alone. Savior wa sleft to live peacfully with Alayla, and to raise her children as she saw fit (oh yeah forgot that bit.)

'You either die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain.' Savior became neither, giving up somewhere between the two,

Soli

AKA what happens to her even though it doesn't really matter. But really, does any of this? I mean, this is a lotta damn work for a couple of D&D characters.

What I like to imagine:

She's made a name for herself as a bard and readily defends and helps those in her elven town.
Raises her kids, has one job or another in town, writes music, and plays at the tavern on Saturdays. A sort of mundane kind of life.
I like to think she's still got the potential to be a total badass. Level 8 is respectable, and I think she can get away with a certain level of intimidation due to her outward fearless appearance. I like the idea of this tiny kenku mom demanding that an elf give her a sword. she steps forward to meet some threatening figure in town, and tres to intimidate them to leave. If they don;t, then she proceeds to use all her tricks; if she moves first- assassinate, gain advantage, sneak attack dice, she either does green flame blade or atatcks twice, then adds a flourish for god measure. then, intimidation attempt number two.

Gives her children elven names.

Symphony; a brief exchange

Desperate and out of options, afraid of her own 'champion, Iris contacts Savior in a dream. She speaks kindly, requesting the aid of the bird, of her last hope, Songbird, the one who started everything, and the one who can finally bring it to an end. But Savior refused. "I'm sorry." "I can't help you." Iris offered promises, really worked her divine charisma, but Savior remained unmoved. "I'm sorry... please, leave me alone." Iris's tone shifted as she became frustrated with this eternally stubborn soul, angry even, and her pleas turned into threats, increasingly unnerving Savior, up until the point where Iris threatened to warp the dream to her will. As goddess of communication, it'd be easy, effective; it'd been done before, and the mere threat terrified Savior.

But Iris wasn't given the chance to even try; Aurem herself disrupted the dream, kicking that lying bitch out, and quickly apologizing to Savior for breaking their long standing arrangement. After giving a quick explanation, Aurem offered to re-instate their deal, to which Savior instantly agreed. "And again... I am sorry for my involvement."

But questions lingered. That goddess, betrayal... and, two other birds bearing Song's soul? Savior was missing some of her own story, and that simply couldn't be allowed be the case.

Someone's Savior

She gives up her life for Resolve and Crescendo's.
A finale, setting up music, that 10 days or so, Angel... gives a sky blue scarf to Angel, adorned with feathers of course. Gives music to both Resolve and Angel. Makes Cresc. agree to speak to her mother every now and then. tells them, but mostly angel, not to loose themselves to their goals.

"I wish I'[d known about you two sooner. I'd have written you a song."

Her new deal; her bloodline is protected until the point where inbreeding is no longer a thing. Offer to Alayla to end any magic effects placed on her by aurem- the wish-love spell. She does agree to break it... but, she still loves Savior.

'Are you really not coming home, Love?'

Resolve writes her a song, as Savior did for the others.

Information

Trivia

  • Has four kids, I think. One of which shoould be eerily similar to Crescendo's brother, Wolf's howl, and thus, should be a naturally gifted caster.
    • All of her children have elven names instead of kenku ones. Snow generally uses Alayla's voice for their names.

Quotes and Excerpts

Aurem, amid what Song can only hope is but another nightmare, stabs a tentacle into her chest and lifts the tiny bird up to face her giant eye, "Go on," she taunts, "Cast a spell; cast Dissonant Whispers..." Song, through a pained expression glares directly at Aurem, perhaps not fearless per say, but as close as one comes to it. And she does, in fact, cast a spell. Message: 'Fuck you.' This throws the beholder into a fit of rage, but man was it worth it.

- A nicely written version of something that happened during the interlude.

…And in a quaint elven home, plucking aimlessly at worn strings, a white-plumed kenku thought on her last response to that free-spirited adventurer. ‘Let me know how it goes…’ but days had passed, and still no follow up. She had hoped for the best, for a victory amid countless failures… but had also expected the worst. She couldn’t condone that bird’s actions, but she could immortalize her story in song.

- A tidbit of prologue I wrote down.

Author's notes

  • In a way, she got the 'good' ending by finally submitting to Aurem's will.
  • Had we followed her children down some path in a solo campaign, it would be nicknamed "Encore."
  • Savior and Angel are good parallels as the remaining living Songbirds.

Music

  • Dream King (By A Shell in the Pit, from the game Wandersong): A soft lullaby with a somber edge to it.
  • The way It's Supposed to Be (By A Shell in the Pit, from the game Wandersong): Resignation, acceptance.... defeat. But not without fully extinguishing hope.
