Summary

he's big, gay, and fights monsters

Aurelius is the type of person who jokes a lot to hide his insecurities. He's actually pretty sharp and quick to understand complex concepts, but he's convinced he's an idiot and only good for his brawn. He's genuinely a nice and pleasant person to be around... probably my only character that is.

He's an inflexible thinker, though, and is completely uncompromising with his strong set of morals regarding right and wrong.

Design Notes

He dresses like a workman from the 1800s. He never wears tight fitting clothing, though, and wears minimal layers—a vest over a collared shirt at most.

Aurelius' mechanical arm is a sort of magitech and requires him to concentrate and channel his own life force into the arm for it to work. When he's tired or resting, he lets it go and it falls slack at his sides.

He's capable of merging with his ethereal companion Taliyu to augment his abilities in combat (or to just make day-to-day existence easier, given the toll his mechanical arm takes on him). When doing this, he gains Taliyu's wings/feathery features—the extent of which varies depending just on how much of Tali's power he's channeling. Have fun with it!

Background

Aurelius was born the son of a rich business owner, but it was not a life of luxury. He was a bastard son and, after his father died, and it was clear that he would have no part of the inheritance or anything else to do with his family. Lacking what he considered any useful skills or other options, he underwent the dangerous and soul-crushing experience of being trained as a Tiercian Knight, specialized in hunting ethereal creatures.

Through a serious of events, he was later forced to fight in his home country's civil war. During this, he lost his arm (and subsequently went spiraling into debt from the expensive prosthetic) but regained contact with an old friend. Said friend went through his own loss, and Aurelius tried to help him through it, though it quickly turned things for the worse.

Trivia

  • He's a bit of a love letter to one of my favorite tropes, a variety of monster hunter where they make a great sacrifice for extra power -- things like the Grey Wardens from Dragon Age, witchers from The Witcher, or the Claymores from the show/manga Claymore.

... but it won't be long."
