Description

Ocelotl are a jungle-dwelling amphibious species that -while looking vaguely catlike, are essentially just "Weird looking salamanders". They are fully amphibians and the cat-like appearance of their face structure is just a natural evolution that pay potentially be related to a strange magical evolutionary chain. They do possess more advanced legs than most salamanders or frogs, allowing them to climb and clamber through undergrowth and allow them to hunt their insect diet of choice.

Their gills are very fragile, and as a species they are easily harmed and subject to predators, so they try and leeway that by living in groups in which they can warn and alert each other to threats.

They are viewed as a common nuisance creature/cute household pet to some, and provide an important niche in insect population control in their native environment.

They have become popular exotic pets for populace elsewhere, as they tend to bond easily to people and aren't typically very aggressive. As long as they're fed and safe- they're comfortable. They do have the habit of being very noisy at the sight of guests or chirping in the middle of the night.

Origins

Ocelotl are a naturally evolved species native to the jungles of Vledeon. They have spread to some extent but due to the fragility of their ecology they don't do well being far from their homeland except under special conditions
