Sachiko was the second and last child born to her parents Garson and   Tabby. However she was a surprise to the couple when they found out  that  they were having twins one boy and one girl. Before Ruben and  Sachiko  were born Garson and Tabby were having problems picking a name  for  Sachiko, but four months before Tabby was supposed to give birth   Garson’s mother was dying of an illness and her dying wish was to give   their daughter a Japanese name since Garson’s parents were born in   Japan, so to honor Garson’s mother he and Tabby decided on the name   “Sachiko” because it was his mother’s favorite name and what she wanted   to name Garson before she found out he was a boy and before her  husband  convinced her to give him a more American name since they moved  to  America when she was pregnant with him.

Sachiko grew up fairly  normally, but when she hit perpetuity she came into her powers  of ice  and freezing things, her father having the same powers as most  powers  are hereditary, helped her control her powers though she still  would  from time to time accidentally end up freezing things.

When   Sachiko and Ruben were turning 14, Ruben had started to behave   differently and act like a completely different person, he became   distant and cold and started getting into trouble at school almost on a   daily basis. At first it was typical kid stuff, back talking teachers,   being disruptive in class, normal ‘bad kid’ behavior but when Sachiko   and Ruben’s 15 birthday rolled around things started escalating.  A  week  before their birthday Sachiko had come home from school along  after her  brother ditched her to go hang out with his friends even  though he was  supposed to come right home after school with Sachiko.  Tabby was  infuriated at Ruben for abandoning his sister and making her  walk home  from school alone, so she called Ruben’s best friends parent  to see if  he had gone to his house, but Ruben wasn’t there. As it  started to get  late into the evening and Ruben still hadn’t come home  Sachiko’s parents  began to worry and were about to call the police but  right before  Garson could pick up the phone they heard a knock at their  door and were  surprised to see a police offer and Ruben. Ruben and a  few questionable  kids who were in a couple grads above him from his  school were caught  stealing and using their powers to destroy private  property. Sachiko was  forced to go to bed early that night and listen  to her parents scold  Ruben and ask him what he was thinking and made  him promise to never do  something like that again.

Ruben had  kept his promise mostly but  he still continued his disruptive behavior  at school much to his  parent’s annoyance, but he never did anything to  bad, until he got into a  fight with one of the older kids who he had  gotten into trouble with  before. Ruben had used his eclectic powers to  defend himself and  accidentally injured the other kid. Ruben tried to  explain to the school  and his parents that it was self defense but no  one would believe him  expect for Sachiko. The following night Sachiko  and Ruben overheard  their parents talking to each other about sending  Ruben to Crystal Water  Academy a school for troubled kids and for kids  who have trouble  controlling their powers. Crystal Water Academy was  well known reform  school however there were many horror stories about  students  mysteriously disappearing if the school failed to ‘reform’  them,  theories were going around that if the kids did not perform to  the  school’s liking or could not be ‘reformed’ the government would  come and  take them away and perform experiments on them, other theories  said  that the school would kill the student and make it look like an  accident  since some students at the school sometimes would get  seriously hurt  and a few students have committed suicide. Ruben was  terrified of being  sent to this school so much that he started crying  when he and Sachiko  went back to his room. Sachiko hugged him and  promised him that she  wouldn’t let their parents send him to the  school, but she also made him  promise that he would try to stop  misusing his powers and try to act  better in school. Ruben promised he  would try his best but he didn’t  know if he could stop ‘acting out’  because it was just how he was.

From  then on Sachiko started  misbehaving and getting herself into trouble.  Her thought process was  if she did worse things then Ruben their parents  would focus more on  her and give Ruben more of a pass because he was no  longer the ’problem  child.’ However Ruben wasn’t keeping his end of the  deal and was still  causing problems and now that Sachiko was starting  to act out as well  their parents were even more bent on sending Ruben to  Crystal Water  Academy thinking that Ruben was a bad role model on  Sachiko and was  rubbing off on her, so everything bad Ruben did Sachiko  would try to do  worse to get the attention off of him and onto her.

When  the  twins turned 16, their parents sat them down and told them that  they  were at the end of their ropes with the two and if they could they   would send them both to Crystal Water Academy, but the school was a bit   expensive so they could only send one, and that was going to be Ruben.   Sachiko was going to be sent to their uncle Kyle who used to be in the   military and had raised his own troublesome children who were now well   behaved teenagers. The twins tried to beg and plead with their parents   but to no avail, they had made up their minds and told the two that  they  had better say their goodbyes to their friends and clean out their   lockers at school because in two months they were leaving. After the   news Ruben had shut down and fallen into a depression. Sachiko was  angry  and upset with her parents for doing this to Ruben and snuck out  of the  house to vent her frustration. She went to the park and ended  freezing  the lake by accident, scared she ran back home only to be  scolded by her  parents for sneaking out and coming home late. The next  day when they  heard on the news that the lake had been frozen they  glared at Sachiko  but said nothing.

For the next two months,  Ruben barley talked  to anyone or did anything, he stopped getting into  trouble and even  broke off his relationship with some of the friends  who he often got  into trouble with blaming them for him being sent to  Crystal Water  Academy. Sachiko however was still causing problems still  trying to get  the attention off her brother but also to vent her  frustration, but one  night when she had snuck out of the house to hang  out with her only  friend Wes Rein, they went to what they thought was  an abandon building  to hang out but they soon found out that it was the  hideout of a  dangerous gang who were not happy to see the teens there.  A fight broke  out resulting in Wes getting seriously hurt and Sachiko  freezing three  people. When the police arrive Sachiko expected to be  taken back to her  home but instead she was taken to a local detention  center and held  there until her parents came to pick her up. Her mother  was crying and  her father wouldn’t even look at her. Ruben whispered  angrily to her  asking her what she was thinking. The next night her  parents informed  her and Ruben that due to the even the night before  Sachiko was now  going to be sent to Crystal Water Academy instead of  Ruben. The night  before Sachiko left she got into a fight with Ruben,  Ruben was calling  her stupid and saying she shouldn’t have done what  she did, Sachiko  replied angrily that she everything for him, because  she promised him  that she would never let him go to Crystal Water  Academy. Ruben just  shook his head and said she was stupid and should  of just stayed the  golden child of the family.

Before Sachiko  was admitted into the  school she met with the headmistress of the  school Mrs. Opal as all  students were forced to do before going to the  Crystal Water Academy.  Mrs. Opal asked Sachiko a series of question but  Sachiko refused to  answer any of them and remained silent even so Mrs.  Opal would smile and  write something down on a paper on front of her.  When the questioning  was over Mrs. Opal informed Sachiko that she was  going to be put into  the section of the school that helped kids with  their powers instead of  the kids who needed ‘more help’. Sachiko to  shocked to speak wanted to  ask why Mrs. Opal would do that but Mrs.  Opal just smiled and put her  finger to her lips saying that this was a  secret between them.

“After  all you’re not really a bad child  you’re just a very protective  sister.” And with that Sachiko was showed  to her dorm room beginning her  life at Crystal Water Academy.
