Kiril's older sister figure who ran away from the Azim Steppe with him when she was 16 and he was 10. The two bounced from adventuring party to adventuring party using Yesui's skills as a warrior as means of obtaining food and/or shelter. After about three years, the two eventually ended up in Coerthas, and after a less-than warm welcome fell in with a group of heretics where Yesui would pick up dark knight-ing from an elezen who was maybe a little too eager to get another person to come kill knights with them. We all need hobbies, I guess. Yesui's reasoning behind picking up the claymore was both parts practical and personal. If she could prove her worth to the heretics, she'd secure a place for her and Kiril to live for the time being, but she'd also be fighting back against a group of people who had attacked her and her brother. Her personal reasoning was strengthened when she heard of another group of au ra who had been slaughtered as they were seeking refuge. Though she was a foreigner fighting for a cause that was barely hers, she thought she and Alsant were taking justice into their own hands and she was incredibly passionate about her "work."
Eventually, Yesui would make a name for herself and a price would be placed on her head. This only motivated her to leave on more ventures with Alsant, leaving Kiril practically on his own for long swathes of time. Eventually, Kiril, who had been doing arcanism practice for some time, decided to tag along behind her and Alsant to show that he wasn't just dead weight. Yesui ended up falling for an ambush and being put to death on the spot. Kiril was nearly killed attempting to save her, and Alsant barely escaped with both their lives.
15 years after that, Kiril was forced to return to Ishgard and would stumble upon her soul crystal. After he picked it up, Yesui's soul clung to his and she has found herself returned to almost-life as a living shadow. She is bound to both Kiril and the crystal and can communicate with him while remaining unseen by anyone else. She's not at full power (since Kiril isnt either) and is more like a ghost or spirit. Her personality is wildly changed to be furious above all else and while she still wants the best for Kiril, she thinks that what's best for him is avenging her no matter the consequences.
