Gareth Gervaise is the most famous surgeon of his time. He rose to prominence by performing a successful full spine transplant. Personality wise, he is an intelligent refined individual. He carries himself with an air of dignity, and his speech patterns are charmingly sophisticated. His charisma is only a mask however. Beneath it he is a neutral and self-serving individual, willing to kill to ensure his survival.
As a child, Gareth was an orphan. His biological family, the Gervaises, were a family of assassins. Gareth learned this later in life, and found it a decent explanation for some of his interests. The joy he felt as he cut into patients, revealing their blood, bones, and organs... It made him happy. Since he channeled those feelings into his work, he saw nothing wrong with it. Still, he wisely kept these thoughts to himself.
Gareth is incredibly enamored with the children's cartoon "Derpy Dragon". His roommate gave him a box set for his birthday as a joke. He ended up loving it. His roommate has apologized on numerous occasions for doing this.
Gareth was abducted from his bed, and brought to the Water Game facility of KG9. Since he was taken from his bed, he is still in his Derpy Dragon pajamas when he wakes up. He is the one player in Water Game without a victory condition, and the only way for him to attain one will be through murder. While in the facility, Gareth meets Reis Noctil, and acts friendly to earn his trust. When the two of them are attacked by Quatro and River Banks, Gareth absconds from the combat. He returns from above later on, incapacitating Quatro, and persuading River to halt her assault. The four people team up, and separate. While alone with Quatro, Gareth tricks the brute into allowing him to murder him, under the guise of a necessary operation. Stealing Quatro's victory condition, Gareth finds himself with a chance to win Water Game. Alas, this is not to be. In a fight with another group, Gareth is hit by a deadly blow. A shield, thrown by Leah Thompson, cleaves through his chest. While it is potentially possible for his allies to save him, River ends his life, stealing all of his victory conditions for herself. Gareth passes on, with three people's deaths on his hands after all is said and done.
The Gareth Gervaise seen in H2G2 is a very different entity. His personality is less refined and his faked socialbility is not present. This version of Gareth is a more clinical and less affectionate individual. The crucial differences in this form of Gareth are a lack of danger and less care for how others see him. Without being in peril himself, Gareth has no need to appear innocent or trustworthy. His diminished shame paired with this results in a man who is happy to focus on his interests regardless of how he appears to others. Gareth will assist patients with medical help when needed, but will otherwise explore the files he is in possession of (or alternatively watching episodes of Derpy Dragon in his private quarters). He is a different individual, who shares traits with KG9 Gareth, but is not the same.
