STORY

Joanathan came from a semi-nomadic family. Despite the halfling penchant for tradition, she strongly dislikes her own family. As a child, she would rather spend her time practicing her (rather impractical for a halfling) cello instead of participating in family gatherings. Her parents and other relatives scorned Joan for her priority for music, so Joan exiled herself from the community and ran away from her problems to pursue her musical dreams. As she grew up, Joan learned whatever she could from wandering bards. Someday Joan would like to reconcile with the Hobbits, but she has convinced herself that it wouldn’t go well unless the conditions are “perfect.”

At least, that's what her story seemed to be on the surface.

The family hatred for music and her cello may have been all a front. When Joan was a teen, she ran into some other youths who worshiped Loviatar, goddess of pain. She found their lifestyle to be glamorous and soon began converting to their deity. After painstaking efforts from her family, she renounced the goddess and seemed to return to just being a silly musician just before departing to go on an adventure.

On her adventures, Joan failed a save to avoid being hypnotized and ended up signing her soul away to the Fey. She was trapped in the Feywild for, what seemed to her, 90 years, forced to entertain the Fey with her cello. Joan suddenly woke up back in the material plane as if time hadn't passed, but she was missing a shadow. She burned her cello afterwards, but the trauma conga line was not over just yet. Along with her friends and partymembers, Joan was imprisoned in Silverymoon by an elf man named Drendar. The others were sent out to be mercenaries for him, but Joan wasn't deemed strong enough to join them. Instead, she stayed in her jail cell, tortured by Drendar with horrible jokes.

Eventually the group was freed from Drendar, and the man was murdered along the way. Joan didn't really remember or know how it all happened because she became a chronic napper and was asleep for most of the time, perhaps because of her time in the Feywild.

One party member wanted to retrieve his magical elemental sword that Drendar had taken away, but the party found out that it was sold to a historian's lodge to return it to its rightful place. At the lodge, Joan met a half-orc librarian man named Imash and promptly became obsessed with him.

She probably lost her mind at this point, and relapsed into Loviatar worship. At one point she stared at Imash all night and had to have a restraining order put on her. The restraining order was a magical barrier that burned her if she got too close. She initially couldn't outrun it, so all her hair got burned off. :^(

A lot of stuff happened afterwards, but eventually the group just rested in Silverymoon (in Drendar's house). Some guards were suspicious of them, and especially of Joan. Joan was caught and interrogated by some worshipers of Lathander. She was executed and banished for serving an evil god. The group was compensated for the loss of an adventurer, so they were offered a replacement who was to also ensure that none of them were spreading evil either.
