Dismas

Backstory

Born, orphaned, and adopted by Brew as a toddler, then raised in Zone 2. He integrated himself into the community as soon as they were old enough to do so, eager to be helpful. Dismas met his younger brother Darwin when he turned 18. He was quick to take up the role of an older brother even though Darwin was weirdly quiet and shy around him. He started working as a gift shop cashier for the amusement park when he was 19, meeting Par alongside his girlfriend at the time. Dismas developed a crush from the frequent visits but refused to act on it until he got the chance to actually see Par outside of work, unaware that the Elsen with him all the time was, at that point, engaged to him. By the time they were in their mid twenties, they started hopping between part time jobs to have more time at home for their family. When he was 30, he was starting to get bored of the same locations and moved to Zone 3 for more permanent work as a security guard for the sugar storage room. The pay was good and he had enough vacation days a year to visit home frequently, but he was never allowed inside the room itself. He stuck around for 8 years until a failure in the furnace room caused a massive fire for the whole factory. He was caught in the blaze and died thankfully quickly, but his body didn't turn to ash. When they woke up, that fire never really went away. He was collected by his mother to start a new life in a new file, where he found his old crush similarly suffering with their new conditions as Harbingers and especially as Opposites.

Personality

Despite his intimidating size and the fact that half of his face is on fire at all times, Dismas is incredibly goofy and lighthearted about most anything. When they're around their brother they make a point to be as bothersome as possible, such as; making short jokes, leaning on his head, taking his hat, poking any overhanging fat, and repeatedly calling him "gay" despite that fact that they're also gay. His politeness shows up entirely with Brew or Par, although with Par it's more for the sake of the company he may have over. Dismas is easily bored and quick to quit jobs that don't give him a challenge to do, although he's usually stuck in one place because of his predicament of being a constant fire hazard. They take a lot of pride in their appearance, wanting to look as cool as possible, usually dying their hair to match their flames and wearing a lot of leather layers while hoping the fire doesn't eat through it.

Trivia

• Dismas likes any gendered terms, even feminine ones despite the fact that he doesn't consider himself femme at all, but he still has preferences for family. He'll always be Darwin's older brother, he'll always be Par's husband or spouse.
• While distant from Darwin for most of their adult lives, the brothers are pretty close. The 14 year age gap is what makes it difficult to really relate to each other. They tend to default to idle conversation that turns into typical bullying (from both sides.)
• It took Dismas about 5 years to see the ring on Par's finger, and he wasn't even the one to realize it was there, Darwin did that for him. He feels guilty for crushing on him while he was married, even if Par reassures him it's fine and in the past anyway.
• Them and Par aren't technically married yet since they decided to live outside of the files entirely. There's no one to officiate them. They also didn't have some kind of private wedding to symbolize that they are. Right now they're just calling each other "husband" and not eleborating when their friends catch up on the word being thrown around.
