History

Ellie was born to a migrating clan called the Esurians that lived along the rocky coast of the sea across the Esur Plateau. Her clan would spend the years moving north to south and back, following the herds of the prairie inland and fishing in the sea. She spent her childhood climbing the precarious outcroppings, helping her mother cook, and looking after the horses. Showing a talent for riding the dangerous cliffs they lived on, she joined the training for their defensive cavalry when she was a young teenager. While this primarily meant scouting and keeping an eye on the wild herds, it did occasionally call for defending her people against wild animals and bandits.

When she was 17, an aggressive inland warlord launched an attack against the Esurians, attempting to claim a route to the sea. Although her people suffered important casualties, including her cavalry commander, Ellie rallied her fellow cavaliers and drove back the attackers, fending them off long enough for her people to rally and join the fight, finally pushing back the warlord's legion. They won the battle but started a war. The Esurians knew it wouldn't be long before the warlord would strike back and decided that their lives were more important than their land. They became refugees, moving south until they came to the city of Tovia, a port kingdom that they had often traded with in the past. They were allowed to settle just outside the castle walls but it was a rough transition from their migratory life style, and the commoners of Tovia weren't kind about their arrival either. Most Esurians took up jobs as cooks, fisherman, and field hands, living meagerly.

Restless and determined to do better by her people, Ellie began to fight in the brawling arena to earn extra coins to buy supplies for the Esurians. Eventually a traveling mercenary group called the Ironlaws Company took notice of her when she nearly bested their boss in the arena. They offered her a position to travel with them, doing good for coin that she could send back to her people. Excited by the idea of being out of the city, and a bit taken with the company's second-in-command, nicknamed Bear, Ellie accepted.

Now 34, Ellie continues to travel and complete contracts for the now renamed Jade Arrows Mercenary Company, her second family. She hopes to one day save up enough coin to pay an army to help retake the Esur Plateau and return her people to the land that was once theirs.
