Profile

Deruccio was born on the streets. His family was poor, with barely enough money to feed him and his sisters. Even at an early age, Deruccio decided that this was just not good enough. He decided to work hard and become rich. not eventually, but as quickly as possible.

Where many people failed, he succeeded through sheer determination.

Deruccio quickly managed to work himself upwards through society, doing favours one day and calling them in the next. Soon, he was not only mingling with the richest people in the city, but he also knew all of their dirty little secrets. It was child's play, rising to the top of one company, buying some stakes in another and in no time owning half the city.

And still this was not enough. Deruccio started collaborating with enemies of the crown, recognising where power was and wanting a share of it. He took part in plotting and scheming to take over the rule in the entire kingdom, but not everything always goes as planned...

One part of Deruccio's plans consisted of acquiring a title. He, though now the richest man in the entire city, was still essentially a nobody. And he knew just the thing to take care of this.

As an extremely desirable, and more importantly extremely rich bachelor, he would have probably even succeeded in asking for the princess' hand in marriage. However, marrying the daughter of a man he planned on overthrowing did not seem as an extremely intelligent move to him. He thought it important that he at least be able to talk to his future wife, and the Lysaris family's youngest daughter seemed intelligent enough to hold a stimulating conversation. Their title and status would not be bad either, coming from a long line of riches and royalty.

Merialith was absolutely delighted and accepted his proposal without question. He made sure she and her family wanted for nothing. He housed his wife in a comfortable home, and of course he did his marital duties. He eventually provided her with what she seemed to be wanting most: a child.
As it hat made her happy, he considered his duty mainly over and done with. He still held polite conversation with his wife from time to time, but he mainly focused himself on his work again, trying to gain allies in his scheme to overthrow king Validon Dalarion.

What Deruccio didn't know, is that Merialith merely wanted his love and attention. She had completely and entirely fallen for him, devoted her entire life to him, but he had never noticed. She spiraled into sadness, mostly ignoring their son in favour of gaining even the slightest bit of attention from the busy Deruccio. Neither would ever be satisfied with what they had, but they would go on until death to get what they wanted most.
