Bunny’s Backstory
When he was born Bunny was brought into a life of poverty, living in a broken down house with his mother. The only belongings he owned was a small handmade plush doll with teal buttons for eyes made by his dear mother. Bunny had become so obsessed with this doll that he treated it like his little sister, playing around with it all day and taking the best care of it. Often they had to resort to stealing in order to survive, the risky way of getting food worked but ended up leading to a lot of piling problems with their community. Eventually his mother got involved with the wrong people, this is where life went downhill, which led to a gang attack on his home. These gang members proceeded to burn their house while they were hiding away from them inside, watching the house burn to the ground. Bunny’s mother provided an escape for him while distracting the gang so he could run away. Once the fire had died down, Bunny felt his face was still on fire as he rummaged through the wreckage, only to find his mother crushed to death from the debris and his beloved doll burnt to ashes. He sat there, tears pouring down his cheeks. The feeling of his tears stung his face from his severe burns but Bunny didn’t care in the moment.
At his feet Bunny managed to uncover a charred wooden bunny face mask. He wiped the remaining charcoal off and placed it over his own burnt face, hiding away his pain and disfigurement as he wandered into the night away from his home. He spent the next month wandering the open roads, avoiding other people and living off what he can find or steal. Eventually this takes a toll on Bunny, causing him to become delirious and exhausted. He begins to become desperate for a place to sleep, soon coming across a chain link fence with an opening in the bottom ripped out. Frantically Bunny climbs under the fence, finding a dense bush where he passed out from physical exhaustion.
Bunny eventually comes to a few days later, being greeted by bright white lights. Groggily he sits up, looking around frantically as he realizes he is no longer in that same bush. As his body began to wake up and be more responsive he found that he was tied down with large leather straps. Panic set in and Bunny began to struggle and writhe in the bed he was strapped to.
“careful kiddo you’ll dislodge your IV” A deep voice came from the opposite side of the room, Bunny’s head snapping towards the sound. A tall man dressed in all white had his back to Bunny as he stood over a table, examining his blood samples to see how sick Bunny was. Loud growling was emitted from Bunny’s mouth, causing him to bark at the man. “Relax kid.. I’m just testing your blood levels” The man’s voice was soothing, throwing Bunny off. He sat there dazed for a moment, watching the man walk closer to him. Now that he was closer Bunny could see him a bit clearer. The man was about 5’10 with messy dark brown hair. His skin was pale to the point it was almost gray, his glasses had a round frame and his eyes were a heterochromia mix of green and brown. Bunny found himself focusing on them heavily, somewhat causing him to relax. He couldn’t understand why but he found them calming. The man wore a dark gray sweatshirt followed with black dress pants and simple brown shoes.
The only other thing that stood out to him was the large white lab coat which reached down to his ankles. A name tag lazily hung off the corner of the coat collar which read Dr. Bricks but to Bunny it looked like a bunch of gibberish. “How did you get here kiddo?” The doctor questions how Bunny arrived but was only greeted by assorted growls and barks from him.
“Hmm so you can't speak.. Can you understand me?”. Bunny hesitated for a moment then nodded showing he could understand him. After some back and forth they came to an understanding. “Do you have a name, kid?” he shook his head. Bunny never really knew what his name was since he never was given one. After thinking he decided on a name, pointing to the charred wooden bunny mask on his face.
“Bunny..? Is that your name?’ he nodded.
After Bunny had recovered, Dr. Bricks had decided to keep him around, teaching him the basics of reading, writing and speaking. As Bunny began to grow, he picked up on a lot of skills seeing the doctor as a parent figure. Throughout their time there at the research facility often people would attempt to attack, sending Bunny into an emotional spiral. Seeing the one person he deemed a parent figure being attacked made him go blank, grabbing a knife and rushing to the intruder, stabbing them viciously. His eyes had widen greatly as anger took over, it wasn't until Bricks had pulled Bunny off the corpse that he realized he had murdered someone in cold blood. His stomach instantly churned and felt all his lunch leave his body as he threw up. Getting him cleaned up, Bricks sat him down, calming him by hugging him close and gently brushing his hair till he stopped shaking, reassuring him everything is ok. Once Bunny is calmed down he is informed of how the world they live in is a kill or be killed world. After the events of this attack, Bunny begins to train in martial arts and self defense.
The following years of bunny’s life repeat the same routine, studies, training and working with the doc to improve his social skills and life skills. Bunny now has a new and improved mask given to him as a present which he treasures. He even attempts to remake his doll so that bunny can see his ‘sister’ once again but fails many times.
Bunny wished that his life would be like this forever. It was simple but nothing made him happier than training then going back to a warm cooked meal from Dr. Bricks. Bunny loved the moments when he would ask a question then Doc would answer sometimes going into long explanations and he would listen happily. It was nice.
However one night Bunny finds history repeating itself as the facility is attacked. Bunny manages to kill people here and there but there are too many for him to keep up. “Bunny! Run out the window and don't look back”
“Wh what? No!.. I don’t want to leave! Im not letting-”
Dr. Bricks pulls him closer to him, he stares into Bunny's eyes the expression on his face was something bunny will never forget, he looked content yet sad and filled with much regret “I said go! there's no time- bunny remember this no matter what live on if not for yourself then live on for me okay kiddo?” his voice was firm yet bunny could tell there was a shakiness to it, he gave bunny a sad smile.
Against his will Bunny gets pushed out the window by Bricks and thrown out the window of the facility, falling from a large height and hitting the river down below. He was disoriented from the sudden rush of water flowing and struggled to keep his head up as he went flying down the river. He felt rough rope pressing against him, his ankle was twisted, cuts and scraped covering his arms, his treasured bunny mask was chipped and cracked.
He felt despair fill him once again as he had no idea where he was or how to get back home to the facility. He had no idea if Bricks was still alive. He was clutching the knife he used in battle tight as he stared up at the trees. Hearing crunching footsteps alerted him to the presence of someone approaching. Soon a woman with long brown hair came into view, looming over him. She has light teal eyes which bunny once again found himself focusing on.
“Oh shit.. You're alive” she smiled in surprise . The woman talking to him reminded him heavily of the doll he owned as a child, unable to respond at first.
“You look pretty battered up, someone tried to kill you huh?”
