Personality

Proud and arrogant, Winfred is obsessed with the mere concept of success, and sees anything other than perfection as complete failure. Over the years, his short-tempered attitude has only gotten worse due to an obsession with the town of Marigold, which he feels entitled to ruling, despising the fact that he has no actual legal grounds for this. Despite how highly he thinks of himself, he's actually very petty and easy to rile up. His ego means even the slightest hint of disrespect is taken as a deep, personal insult to him. Though he puts on the airs of a classy, superior gentleman, he's exceedingly insensitive towards others, even his own family, and has trouble holding back on saying so to people he looks down upon, which is pretty much everyone. He's the kind of man who's never satisfied with what he has, feeling the world has done him wrong, and that it and the people around him owe him more for his efforts.

Misc.

  • Originally, the Randall patriarch was named Saul and was a science teacher, with a dramatically different design. This design was swapped for one of a similar character made for an old school-based Pokémon RP I was once running, and the newly-named Winfred was made headmaster instead.
  • His favourite colour is gold.
  • His favourite food is cheese.

Background

Winfred is the grandson of Marigold's founding father, Victor Randall, who aspired for the town to be a private community for the wealthy elite, that he would have control over. As an impressionable child, Winfred was in constant awe of his grandfather, who doted on him as a future successor to his power, a role he arrogantly came to feel entitled to, shaping his strong ego. However, when Victor passed away and power was turned over to Winfred's father Siegfried, the certainty of Winfred's aspirations were shattered. Siegfried, a much more down-to-earth and peaceful man, sold off ownership of the town to investors and opened the private community to those Winfred had been raised to see as lesser. Feeling unimaginably betrayed and personally disgraced, Winfred severed ties with his father and became obssessed with retaking the town for his family.

Luna

Winfred and Luna have been together for over two decades, having gotten together when Winfred was a youthful rebel before he became so obsessed with Marigold's ownership. Over time however, the fast-paced, romantic fire of their youth has fizzled out a bit as a result of the spiralling madness he forces himself into over his obsessions. As such, he's a bit neglectful of her nowadays, taking her loyal companionship for granted, though he's oblivious to this problem. It's not that he doesn't love her anymore or anything, but his brain is completely preoccupied with everything else going and he just selfishly assumes that she'll always be on his side to support that.

Marilyn

Winfred openly admits Marilyn is his favourite child, due to his pride in her academic successes and her calculating nature. The two have a mutual respect for one another more akin to business partners than father and daughter and they will often engage in serious and complex conversation; Winfred is even more likely to consult Marilyn on the family's finances than his wife. He believes that she's the logical choice to be his successor after his plans come to fruition, despite her not being the firstborn child as is the family tradition. He even sometimes catches himself wishing that she had been born first and received the name Marigold instead. He does however frown upon her fake ditzy persona, as he finds it to be a shameful, inaccurate display of his parenting. Nonetheless he does appreciates it as part of her manipulative skills which, as a devious man himself, he's quite proud of her for.
