General Tama's Links
Rika is one of Tama's many subordinates, but scout Lockfeather stands out from the rest with her high mission success rate, quick flying, and outgoing personality. For that alone, Tama respects Rika. Their relationship shifted slightly after Rika brought an injured stranger back to their city... a stranger with volatile powers and a familiar scarf. She knew Haze's mother, and with powerful magic like his... it was best for someone to keep an eye on him when the city was no longer safe for civilians and the Shadowbloods after his head. Who better than scout Lockfeather? She exchanges letters with Rika and is rooting for the success of her and the boys under her protection.
Rika has a lot of respect for General Tama, not only as her higher up but also as a person. She can tell that General Tama cares a lot about the felcans under her protection, considering it was unconventional for a scout to accompany a pair of civilians, but she understands Haze's situation requires a lot more care than the boy himself even realizes. Tasked with protecting him from the Shadowbloods who want to capture him for his unique powers, she sends letters to General Tama to keep her updated on their travels.
Haze is a stark reminder of just one more thing General Tama has lost. The moment she laid eyes on that scarf, she knew exactly who he was. She recalls giving that very same scarf to her childhood friend the day they completed their training and entered the ranks. She knew her friend was gone, but she wasn't made aware there had been any survivors, much less Sunita's son. She was content to let Haze be until he blew a few Shadowbloods up on accident with his powers, so she decided to train him and help him get them under control at the very least. It's a shame the Shadowbloods decided to launch an attack against her city, causing her to send civilians to someplace safer, but she knows Scout Lockfeather will do a good job keeping Haze out of the paws of the Shadowblood Kingdom. With a power like his, there's no telling what they want him for. Whatever it is couldn't be good.
General Tama is... strange. She would never be able to replace Thatch as his mentor (or ex-mentor, really...), but she is much kinder than Thatch ever was even when she's barking orders at him. She didn't try to kill him, after all, though he was wary of her at first. He had loathed training with her at first, but grew to look forward to it after a while. He hates that she sent him away with everyone else. He could fight, he really could! But she wouldn't listen. "Civilian" she called him, despite his entire life being revolved around fighting. He likes her, but he also resents her for that.
