Ymir is certainly no genius, as is expected of his species. He is, however, kind - going out of his way to stay away from trouble, avoiding people and villages.

- years ago, he was caught in a forest fire and couldn't find a way to escape the flame hell, which left him with severe burns
- sometimes ventures close to a village because of curiosity, at one point falling asleep way too close. That left him with a rude, painful awakening.
- has tried to lean on houses before to watch into a village, effectively breaking a roof without meaning to. Trying to fix it made it worse.
- tried to learn how to built houses the way humans do, but didn't get further than uprooting some trees. He doesn't know how to make planks out of them.
