About
Aberdeen can be a bit of a quiet loner, spending much of his time alone and scoffing at others who exhibit a more care-free and reckless attitude. He is quick to aggression, often perceiving most things as a threat to his safety like a cornered animal. He is often under a great deal of stress and this often influences his behavior. When he is in an environment that's stress-free, he can be more amicable and more willing to trade jokes and jests. He does not hold a high opinion on many things, setting the bar low enough that he is surprised when things turn for the better. He is fiercely protective of people he's allowed himself to care about, though he holds onto this protectiveness with a death-iron grip. He enjoys any company he can find himself tolerating.
Early Life...
Aberdeen had been born and raised in a mixed pod of orcas and orca-selkies in a southern ocean. For generations, the selkies had been protectors of the local pods, ensuring their safety and survival in a modern world that increasingly pollutes and diminishes the natural world. Youthful Aberdeen took this position seriously, though still was young enough to be able to explore and wonder for the outside world around him-- even if he's been taught that it's dangerous.
It didn't seem so dangerous when he first met Edolli. Finding him beached without his orca skin, fully Troll and in the nude, she had given him a blanket to cover himself with, not knowing any better of what he was-- and to hide her growing fluster over some handsome naked guy on the beach. The two quickly became friends and she would show and teach him things about land-dweller culture that fascinates him to this day, all the while being entrusted with his orca coat. However, she would also take him by the hand and drag him into trouble with her and her then-moirail Calvus. He often covered for both of them and helped them with their crimes, at times knowingly and unknowingly. It was fine, though; the three of them were close, and he had his pod. Life was good.
Until it wasn't. One day he came back to shore and found that they had both disappeared. The smell of struggle, strife, and blood lingered in the air. Aberdeen looked all over for Edolli and Calvus, but found himself abandoned with no clue to what happened to either of them. The only logical assumption was death. Hurt and confused, he returned to his pod and channeled his anger towards protecting it.
The Vast and Endless Sea...
Though Aberdeen was dedicated like the rest of his family to protect the orcas, their legacy would soon abruptly end. The pods would slowly dwindle in number becoming victims of overhunting and fishing. The selkies would find themselves worn thin from the efforts of attacking and battling the hunters, their lusii, and their strange modern machines. Their part of the waters had earned a dangerous reputation among sailors, but this reputation would not protect them. Eventually, even the selkies were caught in the nets. The seas were stained. In her last efforts, his mother managed to save him, leaving young Aberdeen alone but alive. But with no family, and a distrusting fear of losing others if he grows close to them, he remained a loner.
A Family By Any Other Name...
Sweeps later, Aberdeen would find himself caught in nets, too. Though he put up a fight, he eventually succumbed and woke up to an even stranger situation. He was not dead, but he was not home. For reasons unknown to him, one of the local mafias had been ordered to fish him up. His orca skin had been stolen, leaving him unable to return to the ocean. He could earn his coat back, however, if he worked with the family. Finding this a better option than death, Aberdeen agreed, and a contract with the fae man was formed. A favor for a favor, one that he is constantly on the lookout to escape from. But then again, the family doesn't treat him so bad. He even likes a few of the members. He might as well protect them while he's here, and with heartstrings attached though he'd never admit to it.
Abilities
Selkie Skin
Aberdeen has the ability to change to and from an orca, provided he has his orca coat. Without it, he is unable to become an orca and is stranded on land. If the coat is not in someone else's care, then the more in-land Aberdeen is the sicker he becomes.
Mild Magic
Aberdeen as a fae is able to manipulate magic, but only slightly. He is more inclined to water magic. He does not use magic often and frequently forgets he has it.
Marksmanship
Aberdeen has proven himself to be a very skilled sniper and is often put on security or assassination missions. He is able to hit targets from a massively far range, and if he remembers he may use magic to better guide his bullets or hide his position. He is also proficient in short-ranged combat.
Keen Hearing
Aberdeen has a very strong and sharp sense of hearing. He is able to identify the source and location of the sound without actually being able to see where it came from. However, this ability can be overwhelming to him as a weakness if in crowded and noisy areas.
Relationships
Ocalca Rnalka [ red crush - fwb ]
Aberdeen secretly quite likes this freak's company more than he ever wanted to. Though Ocalca's his blackmailer, Aberdeen's found a secret that levels the playing field; now they're both in some mode of respect tugging on the other's fin. Well, maybe they tug on each other's fins a little too much... wonder how many beds they've broken in, much to the dismay of the other mafia members' ears. Their relationship makes no sense to outsiders looking in and that includes the people who roleplay them..
Edolli Spaden [ pale crush - fwb]
One night after a mission, Aberdeen had been distracted by the sounds of screaming and struggle. He was willing to shrug it off and walk away-- this wasn't his problem, not his people. But when the screams made him run into a familiar face, the world faded away around him-- Edolli! Just like old times, he dragged her away from trouble and somewhere only temporarily safe. It was an overdue, but awkward, reunion; a lot of time has passed since their sweetheart days, and the two are now calloused and grow annoyed with one another. Despite this he is very tender towards her, though has little patience of her being overly self-sacrificial over him. She gives him hope and a sense of balance that he had thought he lost when he lost everything.
