Polina Galanos

"The Dame" is an interesting case. Few people know her, but she is largely considered to be extremely professional and reliable.

As one of the most prominent figures of the Sewers, she is head of anything pertaining to the "secret" markets. She deals with objects ranging from lost relics to human remains and she is known to always put a fair price on the commodities. Her knowledge is vast and she is very tidy with her dealings.

Growing up, Polina always admired her parents. They were successful people, important and powerful, it's only natural that they wanted the same thing for her. She was never opposed to this, in fact, she aspired to it constantly, always giving her all in anyhing she did. "When you do something, do it to make yourself proud" her parents said. That was until she met Irina Pavlovna when they both started school, as they became friends, Polina did her best not to outshine her, relegating herself to second place.

They both did ballet, it was their passion. Irina always said her dream would be to perform Swan Lake as Odette, with Polina at her side playing Odile. Polina would always smile at that, but it was never turthful. That started happening more often than not, the lying, she always showed herself to be fine with the arrangement but she actaully never forgot her ambition, it was just being supressed, begging to be let out and make something of herself again.

Ballet moved money, it was an industry. Behind her friend's back, she knew this, and acted upon it. Perhaps Irina was right on one thing: Polina would be the perfect Odile. Over all those years, with her parents philosophy as fuel, Polina made an exhorbitant amount of connections with all kinds of people, some more unsavoury than others.

Perhaps it was all this that, when Swan Lake was announced, rendered her unable to beat Irina's audition for Odette, but she was not going to give up. She was tired of conforming to the other girl. After a performance of Don Quixote, Polina found herself alone, Irina and her were no longer talking after that fiasco. She was waiting at the back of the building, when a man approached her.

Dimitri, as he introduced himself, was a total weirdo, but she found herself laughing at all his stupid jokes and telling him about her life. In the way he looked at her, she saw something delicate and innocent, like a first love. In his gaze, she had found her white swan. After a few months of them dating, she landed the role. "Odette, my dear, would you let me be your prince?" She smiled.

Dimitri and her didn't last too long. As good as it had been at the beginging, everything must come to an end, and she wasn't too bothered. Not long after the break up (well, she just kinda got up and left one day, leaving him a note) she started making use of all the connections she had gathered over the years. This landed her at the Sewers.

Thanks to all her lobbying, she scalated the power ladder pretty quickly, getting to being the head of the market just a few years after her appearance and easily becoming an influential figure there. Things caught her off guard less than never, but the sudden arrival of a more-fucked-up version of Dimitri's little brother was something she definitely wasn't expecting.

Now, almost a decade later, she still is one of the most important people of the Sewers, along with the boy, formerly known as "Nikolai", now known as "The Mender" (or Luka, for friends only ;) ).
