IN-GAME LORE

Micah, no last name, lives in a cabin in the woods just south of the village of Shadowfall. He's infamously known as The Wolfwitch on account of his polymorphism, his favoured form being a giant wolf. He maintains a dour, intimidating composure in an attempt to keep people away from him, because he believes that would be to their benefit. Through a series of happenstance events, he accidentally made friends with a treasure hunting adventuring party lead by the rogue Nimuel.

In the campaign Circle of Beasts, where Micah originates from, his adventuring friends go looking for an ancient artifact against his warnings. This artifact was created and is guarded by a Lich-God, the same god that sired Micah. Micah resides by the temple that houses the artifact and does his best to steer people away from it, but his admonishing didn't work this time. Nimuel's party fails to retrieve the object and are turned into beasts, which attack the city of Shadowfall before Micah can manage to reign them in. He spends the prelude of the campaign holding up magical barriers that keep each of his friends in one 'territory' so that they can't attack the village or each other. The magic that keeps his friends in their monstrous forms also prevents Micah himself from getting near them while their phylactery is in tact- an object that takes the form of a small glass eye and is found on each of the monsters.

Players, seeking the same forbidden artifact, will meet Micah in their search. In a fit of desperation, he'll offer to tell them about it if they'll help his friends. Players are tasked with retrieving each phylactery and bringing them back to Micah, so that he can perform his ritual and turn his friends back to normal, one by one. After helping all of them, Micah will begrudgingly reveal the location of the temple housing the artifact, but warn the players against going, especially after seeing the aftermath of what happened to the first party who tried. Most parties tend to go in anyway.

A party who enters the temple of the lich-god will be forced to fight Micah himself-- no longer himself, but rather being puppeted by his sire. Micah is a demi-lich, so he'll keep fighting until he is fully dead. A party who succeeds in such a trial will be allowed to take away the artifact within the temple(as well as Micah's corpse, if they so desire, which will rapidly deteriorate and leave only a skeleton behind). The object within the temple consists of a gauntlet and a seeing lens. both of which will, in their own way, permanently affix themselves to the wearer and allow them to be pointed in the direction of anything they seek. Players can use this to locate Micah's phylactery and put his body back together, if they so choose.

Micah himself was technically born undead, and doesn't actually know what his phylactery is. Using the artifact, players can determine that it consists of two of the ribs of his late human mother.

TRIVIA/MISC

-Micah used to have the surname of his mother, but dissociated himself from it when he moved out.

-He's trans, and started studying polymorphism as a means to transition. He took to magic VERY easily thanks to his heritage, which he didn't know of until much later.

-He's a couple hundred years old, but doesn't keep track of specific numbers and wouldn't be able to tell you his age without doing the math first.

-He's chronically ill and walks with a limp. Drawing attention to it irritates him.

-Although he appears mostly human, he has a few telltale abnormalities- his teeth are visibly sharper than average; he doesn't breathe; he doesn't have a heartbeat.

-He's 5'5". He'd like to be taller, but his skeletal issues prevent him from sustainably altering his human skeleton too much.
