A pyrotechnician from the big, big city far up North. She followed her childhood friend Charles with their other friend Flint when he inherited Firework Farm from his Grandfather - which Darby named - claiming that he'd need the extra hands. Secretly, she was grateful to leave the city behind, and Darby aclimated to rural life with ease. She takes care of all the dirty farming work while Charles spends his days on the docks, fishing. She is beloved by many of the Pelican Town residents - though she makes a horrid first impression with many of them due to her abrasive nature. She introduces Fireworks to the town with the help of Maru and Demetrius on Summer, Year 2 - and Lewis decides to celebrate the anniversary of the Community Center being restored by making it a town holiday called Blooming Night. Darby is noted to be a brilliant mind - though she will be the first to admit that before she moved to Pelican Town, she was unable to find motivation put her genius to work. She likes having busywork on the farm and doesn't mind her hands getting dirty. In fact, she thinks it's the best way to celebrate. On Fridays and weekend nights, she can be seen at The Stardrop Saloon, hanging out with Shane.

Backstory

Darby never met her biological parents - she was orphaned at an early age. She has never had any interest in looking for them or anything of the sort. When Darby was three - she was adopted by two her Dads, a politician and a chemistry professor at the local college. She was always in the city, even as a child, and was used to there always being some sort of hubbub or commotion at least somewhere in the vicinity.

Darby met Charles in school. She was gifted - so her fathers sent her to a private school. The two would create an everlasting bond - despite Darby constantly annoying the hell out of Charles. The two were pretty much inseparable... mostly on Darby's part. She would often act as Charles' buffer for those that were unkind or just plain rude. Darby met Flint along the way, and the three became the best of friends.

The three eventually went to the same college - and Darby got a degree in chemistry, like her father. However, after college, Darby began to teach herself pyrotechnics, and went on to become a self-taught pyrotechnician.

Sometime later, Charles' grandfather died - leaving him a farm. Darby wormed her way into going with him, knowing there was no way she would leave her best friend behind. Flint, being a farmer himself, also agreed to go with them to help out. Besides, Darby believes Charles couldn't last a day out on the farm by himself! Haha!

Personality

Darby is… fast-paced and lives life on the edge, loving risks and loving to kick butt - never wanting to slow down for anyone. She barely ever shows any formalities, or even calls older people “Mr.” or “Mrs.”, just nicknames, like she would her peers.

Darby was always a natural genius - but before coming to work on the farm, she was incredibly lazy, and didn't want to work hard at anything or even try it if she wasn't already naturally good at it.

Darby is... very abrasive as a person. She can come across as aggressive at some points, or even plain rude, just because of her informality and smugness - and, well, while she is pretty rude and doesn’t quite give everyone the respect they deserve right away, once you earn Darby’s loyalty, you’ve got it for a long, long time. She’s quite devoted and will respect you and see you as an important person to turn to.

She is however, a little too proud to ask for help. She has… somewhat of an ego, and likes to be the best. Being number one will always be Darby’s focus, and Darby will always try to help herself before asking for help from others, if she can.

Oooon the other hand, Darby LOVES to worm her way into giving people advice.

Darby’s also super loud. She’s a bit of a party-animal. She’s a noisy and boisterous lesbian who wants to be the center of attention and constantly the life of the party.

All in all, Darby is a loud and kind of obnoxious girl who’s a naturally smart girl who used to feel like she didn't have to work hard to get good results. She loves being number one, and is very smug - and super fun to knock off of her high horse. She’s kind of a lesbian early gen pokemon rival. However, she is a kind person at heart, and kind of a good teacher. Just make sure not to bump into her, or she might fine you.

Relationships

Darby eases into life in Pelican Town much faster than Charles - and is friends with many of the townspeople, like Flint. Darby's glad to have met Demetrius and Maru - she's a chemist herself, so she does a lot of field work for them. She's close to Maru, though Demetrius thinks she's pretty rowdy. She's also unlikely friends with Shane - solely due to her persistence and constant wearing him down... and maybe some bribery of hot peppers they can share. Darby pursues Haley romantically, and makes her a special firework at the Feast of the Winter Star. She's also friends with Elliott by proxy of him always being around Charles.

Darby's girlfriend.

CHARLES

The closest person to Darby besides Flint. The two are, as Darby would put it, platonic life partners (...slash rivals). She switches between that and platonic soul mates for her, Charles and Flint.
