Profile
Today on OCtober Day 3, we delve into a character who, unlike Mika or Zippy, was born of rare origin and used in an actual roleplaying forum as one of two trainers I played on a little forum called Pokemon Torrenta. This was back when it used to be an old proboards forum ran by an admin named Winter, in a time where text based RPs finally stole my attention for good. The idea of this character actually came from a dream I had, and was built off the dream as opposed to character influences from other media. Because of his unique conception and his reputation on the board for being one of the more mysterious characters in the game, he quickly became my favorite trainer character to play out of the two (being himself and Mika).
Brief Summary
As stated in the intro, Desco came from a dream I had back in high school, not long after I was already using Mika as a pokemon trainer on a Pokemon RP dedicated forum. In the dream, he was part of a crew I ran with made up of pokemorphs trying to lie low--something of a mix between your standard Gifted themed stories and Pokemon. In the crew, he was this pale brooding guy with long flowing white hair who always either looked serious, tired, or just blank. None of us knew what he turned into, none of us have ever even seen him morph, but he somehow always managed to get us out of trouble like some silent guardian working backstage while the crew openly flopped and floundered.
Then, towards the end of the dream, I catch him and secretly watch as on the rooftop of the abandoned building we're crashing in, he stares at the equally pale moon with that same blank, fathomless expression. His coat falls away as his body glows and transforms into this massive...HEART shape. He's a Luvdisc 'morph. A stark black Luvdisc with beady red eyes, floating from the roof and into the open air, sailing away from the building and into the night. It should be silly, but it struck me as majestic more than anything else. It left me with far more questions about his character and his past, questions I could only begin to answer after I woke up.
Naturally I needed to explain these things to make this character work out on a public forum. Pokemorphs were allowed, but I needed a reason for him to be off-color and well...strange. The answer was quite simple then. At the time I believe it was Pokemon Coloseum or XD came out, so my explanation went as follows--he's not just an experimental pokemorph, but an experimental SHADOW pokemorph. It would explain his almost emotionlessness, caused by a good heart being closed up tight. He was prone to fits of violence, but the would happen almost unconsciously and only if he was provoked. I was also allowed at the time to give his Squirtle the ability to speak, so there would be some kind of mouthpiece between himself and other trainers and characters on the site. Bessie was a very necessary and welcomed starter Pokemon that I totally should have drawn more, what is wrong with me. She was precious.
Anyways, so much so was I into this character that even though in game he had ended up being cured of his Shadow state, I still wanted to write more about him and his past. I even started a couple of chapters to his story which I'll add to the Literature section soon. His was a long ride, though a bit shorter than Mika's ultimately, but I do remember that for a time he was truly one of my favorites.
