Wilhelm's first wife, the Felix's mother, died during childbirth which divided Wilhelm's life into before and after. He still can't accept her death, even after so many years. As well he can't accept Felix as his daughter. He sees her only as a walking burden of his loss, vaguely reminiscent of his wife, rather than his own daughter. He's not abusive towards Felix, but rather is cold and distant, as if he is always trying to ignore her existence and not paying any attention.
