Cosima's design is loosely inspired by Hanahaki Disease, as well as by general parasitic plants/fungi/lifeforms found in both fiction & non-fiction works.

The plants on their body noticeably change between seasons, typically keeping a uniform colour scheme for each corresponding one, including those where their eyes are assumed to be.
Whether they are infected with something unpleasant is... unknown, however they've caught quite the knack for caring for typically finicky & rare plants, and don't otherwise seem to be in any distress or dispair.
