Meryl

Meryl is outwardly charming, flirtacious, and friendly. They have an easy time relating and connecting with others, or at least pretending they do, in order to gain their trust and admiration. Meryl enjoys being liked, much like anyone, but prefers when the attention is on them and no one else. They have an easy time making surface-level friends, but struggle to form deeper connections and maintaining them. They use their charms to get what they want, and when they don't, they can be quite fickle and unfriendly.

Inside, Meryl knows that they are manipulative. They don't enjoy introspecting, often finding themselves focusing on self-doubt and criticism. They struggle with feelings of inadequacy, and often creates personas of themselves in order to connect and fit in with others. As much as they enjoy attention and socialization, they can feel quite anxious and nervous in large crowds. Intimate settings are no better, as Meryl worries that if they spend too much time with someone and they dig deeper, they will see that Meryl is not what they pretend to be.

If someone were to take the time to get to know Meryl, truly, they would seem to be immature and scared. They would also see that Meryl can be loyal, and despite being selfish, has the capacity to care deeply about others, even if it's way, way, WAY deep down.

Meryl was raised by loving parents. They were coddled a bit too much, and felt as though they were being smothered once they became a teenager. They were very involved with petty criminal activities as a teenager, stemming from their need to fit in. Their manipulation and using others started early, though it only got them so far when they were caught stealing one day. Their 'friends' were not there for them, running off and leaving them to take the blame entirely. Their loving parents were heartbroken, having not known that their darling child was a criminal. Meryl was never regarded the same, and they were sent away to live with their uncle in Angel Fire, New Mexico. Heartbroken and disinterested in doing anything but laying around and being miserable, they were given an ultimatum of getting a job or going to school, or being thrown out onto the street. They picked neither, and instead became a couch-surfer of various boyfriends.

Eventually Meryl made a responsible decision and got a job, finally able to move into an apartment of their own. They spend their time sleeping around and working at the bar, but often has a nose for trouble.
