Profile

The Nanasupari-Bushi, the Seven Cutting Samurai - was once a Noble Swordsman, who swore to protect a powerful Shrine Maiden. He was always at the temple she stayed at night and day. It was one fateful day when a group of seven bandits - actually from a rival of the samurai—were sent to kill the warrior so the maiden would have to marry their leader out of fear.

The Samurai fought his best, maintaining the temple with pride, but with the seven men were able to overpower him, they told the man. The shrine maiden would belong to their leader, as a wife. He finally had enough and launched them, but was struck down, over seven different times. The Seventh left a massive gash in his face, along his mouth. The Shrine maiden was able to hear it all, praying for his life to be spared over hers. As the leader of the bandits finally showed up - pulling the maiden out, as she cried out in pain.

an Oni Mask that she had kept near her came flying out with her and landed near the body of the samurai. She suddenly coughed as the leader picked her up by the throat and grinned. Before hearing the other bandits scream out in pain. As he looked over he saw the corpse of the samurai holding the mask over his face and slashing down the men. The leader suddenly gripped the shrine maiden's neck more, threatening to kill her if the corpse came closer. But then he suddenly felt a stabbing pain in his arm.

Seeing the shrine maiden had stabbed herself and then him. She cursed him with her dying breath as the corpse's blade slashed through him with ease. The samurai's corpse grabbed the shrine maiden's body placing her on the temple's steps.... It is believed the Samurai's spirit and body now haunt many places - seeking out those who are wicked of heart and cutting them down.

Many Modern Stories of this yokai are said to be linked to an old shrine maiden's bamboo comb, those who protect it are to have his blessing - while those who toss it to someone else with no care will be cut down into seven different pieces.
