About: The Black Rose had existed long before Noxus was conceived, and it had no shortage of members. Líf — known then by his true name, Yaotyl — was one of the Black Rose’s most loyal members. He directly served LeBlanc, the matriarch of the cabal, and was her student in the dark arts. However, servitude for the rest of his life did not sit well with Yaotyl, and he craved to be more than just a lapdog for the Black Rose. He consistently tampered with her plans and repaired the mistakes he crafted to make her seem like an unworthy leader compared to him. Beneath the dark, he even gathered a number of loyalists that were manipulated well enough to follow him and aid him in overthrowing LeBlanc. Alas, his plot would fail and he would be discovered, and he and his rebellion would be quickly squashed. As punishment for his foolish betrayal, he was imprisoned in a deep, hidden dungeon below the forgotten kingdoms of Shurima where he would live centuries and centuries of incarceration and isolation. He had lost hope, his darkened heart filled with resentment and hate toward the world and more specifically the woman who had proved herself better than he.

However, Yaotyl would receive the perfect opportunity to escape his prison when the Void began to slip further into the continent. Strange creatures tore through the land, unearthing buried temples and ruins as they rose from the ground. He would be so lucky as to be freed by Rek’sai as she hunted for prey. This gave him the chance to live outside of his confinements and plot his revenge. However, he had lost so much power over the years of isolation, so under new guises, Yaotyl would travel Runeterra to obtain more and more power until he was satisfied — but what can satisfy one that cannot be satisfied?

While he has had many names over the eras, his most current alias is Líf. He is a prolific liar and often manipulates others for his own gain. He is not above violence and will sometimes partake in a little murder when he’s feeling frisky. His ultimate goal is to kill LeBlanc and ascend to godhood, but why not make the journey entertaining? While he is not as powerful as LeBlanc, he possesses many incredible, dangerous abilities with dark magic, including duplication, teleportation, conjuration, shapeshifting and telekinesis — as well as heightened strength, agility, and reflexes. Most of modern day Runeterra is not aware of his existence, especially since the Black Rose did everything they could to erase him, so much so that newer Black Rose members even hear little about him.
