Contra Luz is, in essence, Black Fire Opal's "twin.*" He's the calmer of the two by far, but no less curious than his other half. His version of getting distracted is just quieter and easier for B.W. to overlook so he can actually get away with it. Contra Luz spends so much time absorbed in his work (lab-sanctioned or that frog Fi found, same difference) that he doesn't talk about much else and the other gems--aside from Fi and Toli, of course--find his single-minded rambling tiresome. But he's not much of an extrovert. He'll get lonely without Fi or Toli around to keep him company, but they're really all he needs to feel socially satisfied. Nacre herself finds him amusing and he tries to feel okay with that, but he is very aware that the gem shards she sends to him and Fi were from on-site executions. And that he and Fi are a curiosity in the gem world. They were born without a Kindergarten. They're not fusions, but they fit oddly well together from the very moment of their creation. Even their gem placements are complementary. He's tried talking to Fi about it, but she brushes him off. Toli is the only one he feels comfortable talking to about these feelings. She understands better than most what it's like to be an experiment and what it may mean, emotionally, to one day find out exactly who's shattered remains they were grown from.
*Although Fi and Contra Luz are referred to as "twins" by members of the lab, this is a misnomer. Their gems did experience "twinning" during formation, but Nacre separated them before they properly "cooked." As a result, their internal components are all from the exact same dead gem shards, though in varying amounts, but they both emerged with individual forms; they're not twins in the way gems would typically describe it.
