Magic

Mabel comes from a long line of powerful witches and takes great pride in her family. She's inherited a lot of power from her bloodline and grew up surrounded by magic which results in her sometimes looking down on normal humans. Due to a solitary childhood, most of her strengths tend to focus on benefiting herself. She knows what she is good at and tends to focus on those things. One particular feature of note is her strong ability to cast spells, yet complete inability to reverse them.

Fight

Mabel found in her youth that while spells could do a lot of things, sometimes smacking your problems around was a faster solution. Magic kept the monsters around her home at a distance, but fighting them took care of the problem for good. Mabel's fighting style is charging straight in and over powering her enemies; she has no formal training and tends to deal with the situation in the moment. She fights with enchanted weapons that make her much stronger than she appears.

Skills & Abilities

Attack
Though she does not look like it, Mabel is extremely strong with offensive magic and can take down magical creatures many times her size. Her main weapon is an echanted scythe.

Flight
Mabel has been flying on her broom since she was very young and now uses her flying abilities to make deliveries. Her broom has a big red bow on it.

Silence
One of Mabel's favorite spells is the silence, which quiets all noise around her. It is useful for sneaking up on enemeies and making people shut up.

Hidden
One of Mabel's strongest spells is her ability to hide herself from the sight of others, however it will only last for as long as she can hold her breath.

Potion Making
Mabel's grandmother is a potion master, so Mabel never felt the need to learn much about potion making herself. If she needs something she can just get it from granny.

Healing
Due to her high magical energy, Mabel's body is naturally capable of taking more damage and healing at an accelerated rate... so she never bothered to study any healing magic.

Transformation
Mabel lacks the focus for transformation spells. She can make things change, however they always change back within a few minutes. She's just never able to get them to stick.

Animals
Many witches have the ability to communicate with animals on some level. Mabel is not a fan of most animals and does not wish to speak with them. She particularly dislikes cats because they're too smug.

History

Mabel was raised in her grandmother's potion shop which was hidden deep within an seemingly endless forest full of large beasts & other dangerous (and sometimes magical) things. A long and bloody war was raging during Mabel's childhood, and as a result her grandmother never allowed Mabel to leave the forest. Since only the strongest and bravest were capable of reaching the potion shop, and most of those folks were busy with the war, they rarely saw visitors.

The young witch filled her days with playing around her grandmother's land and exploring the strange and enchanted things in the forest around her; as she aged, she learned to hunt the more dangerous beasts that lived deep within the trees. Time moves differently deep within the forest, particularly for those raised there; while Mabel is in her late teens, nearly a century has passed in the outside world since she was first left in her granny's care.

Eventually the war outside ended and Mabel was allowed to venture outside her home, though at first she had little reason to as the the meager villages and crumbling cities of the outside world did not interest her. With the changing times Mabel's grandmother started to get more orders and, not wanting her granddaughter to be too spoiled or idle, Mabel would be tasked with flying her broom out of the forest to make deliveries. At first it was only a few times a month, but as the years passed and the world continued to rebuild, her duties became more frequent. Mabel considers her job an annoyance at times, however after seeing how the outside world lives she is aware of how fortunate she is and listens to her granny without complaint.

Mabel has never met her mother and knows little of the woman other than the occasional story she will hear while out in towns making deliveries. From what Mabel can tell, mother is a bit of a “bad witch” that takes jobs to cast curses and destroy lands. Mabel has asked her grandmother a few times about her mother, however granny never has much to say other than “she always was a wild one, that girl.”

Prelude

During her late teens, Mabel doesn't have much going on her life other than making deliveries for Granny and doing her normal exploring and hunting in the forest. She starts to slack off a bit on her studies as she feels little motivation to further her magic. She already has the all the abilities she needs for her day to day life and Granny isn't going any where any time soon so she doesn't see much of a reason to be pushing herself. She does put more effort into improving her flying abilities, as she notices when she approaches towns people will often stop to watch her, and she wants to be sure she looks good when she lands and never flies into anything.

As Mabel journeys more, she starts to feel more of an attachment to the outside world. While she never really makes any friends, she does take note of certain places and people, and she'll often check up on them whenever she's in the area. She comes to view her favorites as “her people” and sometimes will cast spells to try and help them, though it often doesn't work out how she hopes. Having grown up in the magical world completely cut off from normal humans, Mabel had always looked down non-magical people, and while she does grow to have more empathy for them, she still maintains a bad habit of viewing them more as things to be observed and sometimes tampered with.

When Mabel first starts her delivery service, Granny only tasks her with going to small villages and towns. As the years pass, she begins flying to bigger cities and delivering to more wealthy and important figures. Eventually, Granny entrusts Mabel with making deliveries to the nobles in the country's capital. At first Mabel is intrigued to be going to the capital, but it quickly disappoints. She finds the way the poor people live in dirty, over crowded places sad, and the way the rich live in gaudy homes following all sort of strange high-society customs ridiculous. And everyone is rude.

One day when making a delivery to the capital, Mabel takes a detour to fly over the royal family's castle. While high in the air on her broom, she is shot out of the sky by several arrows. While the arrows do not hurt her physically, she does crash land into a tree and her pride is badly injured. One of the arrows ends up stuck in her capelet, and as she looks it over the arrow fades into a strange shadowy substance then vanishes. At this point she realizes they were shot by a magic user, causing her to go from displeased to insulted. Mabel had not realized anyone around the humans could use magic (because she had never bothered to learn about humans, or she'd have know the royal family has soldiers with magic) and she could not believe one of them would shoot at her.

With this new information, Mabel begins a new quest: find who shot that arrow, and get revenge on them.
