"'You people with hearts,' he said once, 'have something to guide you, and need never do wrong; but I have no heart, and so I must be very careful.'”

Hailing from New Vegas, Silvio is a moody, serious synth often found lingering in the corner of the Railroad HQ. He's been through a lot just to get here and it seems it isn't living up to his expectations. He offers his skills at repair whenever he can, vying to be useful. Even among the Railroad, he is reluctant to take off the bandana that hides his mutilated face.

Personality

Silvio has always been a guy to keep to himself. It's a good safety tactic, but it's also just part of his nature. In the Mojave, he could carry a conversation with strangers and take drunk antics on the Strip in good humor. It wasn't until he cast away the good parts of his life to pursue Boston that his dark undercurrents took over. He was also struck across the face with a ripper while on his trek, and he tore away the flesh after being unable to fix it himself. Now mutilated and clearly identifiable as a synth, he is much more reluctant to spend time in public. This isolation has not been good for his feelings of desperation and disappointment.

That being said, he is sarcastic and short with people, but not overly aggressive. He still has things to prove about his right to exist and he understands that hurting the innocent won’t help. He has a soft spot for other synths and is always willing to talk to them about anything.

Depending on outside influences--and if anyone sees what path he's headed down in time--Silvio will either give in to his pain and become the second Broken Mask, or find a new reason to live that isn't revenge-based.

BACKGROUND

Silvio woke up in the Mojave desert amnesiac and alone. He was aware of two things: he wasn't human, and he was being hunted for it.

Other than the huge hole in his chest, Silvio passed just fine for a human, so he took to living as a handyman and bodyguard. Not needing to eat, drink, or sleep made travel easy, and he became familiar with all reaches of New Vegas. He could never shake the fear and paranoia that came with being around people, however. He never met anyone he could trust with his secret, and he also never found any clues about where he came from and why he was made.

He resented human beings because of it. He resented himself for his cowardice. He had ideas, passions, and beliefs that he could not express- he could never tell someone that he believed he had a soul- because it would expose him.

Despite it all, Silvio retained hope, and found a rare few that he could consider to his standards, and he protected them. He was not going to waste his life on being anything less than good.

It was the tragic close encounter with another synth, the only other one of his kind he’d ever met, that broke his heart and changed his resolve to abandon everything he had and find the ones responsible for his creation.

The year-long trek across the country nurtured his righteous anger and vitriol. He pictured a bombastic homecoming, a victory over the heartless humans that created life and wanted it to restrict itself. Finally, he could put an end to his fears.

He made it to Boston, and he found the Railroad. There wasn't a climax waiting for him. The whole process was fairly slow and quiet, and he discovered he was among dozens of other synths, as they were called. He stood out in one way: he was clearly an earlier generation of synth. In fact, he must be at least fifty years old, since he matched the descriptions of the fateful Broken Mask incident in Diamond City.

He comes to believe that the Institute itself has no interest in him--no one is out there seeking for a lost derelict model. On top of that, Desdemona bars Silvio from any high-stakes missions, seeing he is too emotional to be trusted with them. The result of his years-long search, years-long dread and obsession, was being told that it was all for nothing.

His creators and enemies don't want him, and neither do the people he's meant to belong to. Silvio gave up his life in the Mojave and he doesn't know where else to go from here.
