Personality
Declan is reclusive and tends to keep to himself. Unlike in his youth, he rarely smiles and looks like a grumpy old middle-aged man. He can be standoffish, especially towards those who have wronged him in some way, he can also be a sarcastic ass. Deep down, though, is a kind man who is more than willing to help anyone in need, including people he dislikes, even if there is no benefit for himself. Declan also believes that family is oneof the most important things, that family is home, and there is an emptiness in him left by the death of his family that he hasn't been able to fill.

Description
Tall, at 6'6". Declan has a broad, muscular build. He has a fair complexion and is covered in freckles with a higher concentration on his nose and cheeks. His auburn shimmers like fire in the sun and he has a full beard that is kept close (he lets it get scruffier in winter). His eyes are a moss-green with flecks of honey-brown.

Background
Declan left Ireland in 1847, two years into the Great Potato Famine that ravaged the country. He was twenty-five at the time and had no intention of leaving, but his mother told him that he should go to America to find a better life while on her deathbed. He couldn't exactly deny his beloved mother her dying wish.
He arrived in New York and traveled the country for twenty-one years. Sometimes he was run out of a town, sometimes he left because he no longer felt safe, and sometimes he just got tired of the location. In 1868, he settled in Helena, Montana and became a miner.
