Background:

Born in eastern Afghanistan, Ghazuz enlisted in the military at the age of 18. At age 23, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war for three years before the compound he was being held at was bombed. He was pulled from the rubble by U.S./Afghan forces - Constance's company - and was rushed to intensive care, where he barely survived. Once he recovered enough, he applied for refugee status at the U.S. embassy, and soon after traveled to the United States to remake his life from scratch. He continues to battle intense chronic pain and his trauma with the help of his masjid, his social worker, his therapist, and Constance. He later hesitantly took in an 18-year-old and 7-year-old named CC and Sofía, respectively, and has since grown rapidly attached.
