Overview

As an S ranked magus, distinguished in their field of fulgurn maggery, Ceres is one of the most seemingly unlikely to receive their Profectus Magia. Despite what little is known of them, Ceres continues to top the performance metrics of the Guild Commission. What is even stranger -according to information released following the hosting of guild memberships within the public domain- Ceres has never needed to renew their adventuring license, a clear violation of the institutions own rules. Though this fact has been called into question many times, the guild seems disinclined to take action. After so many years, those who the ordeal mattered to quieted or lost interest. Granted, this unassuming Magus has only continued to prove their commitment to the wellbeing of others through their own flavor of duty.

Elementalism

Like those of their kind, Ceres has a specialist attunement to a single element, in this case, the element of Fulgur. Generally -as Fulgurn is an ordinal combination of the schools of Ignis and Aeris magic- this is a rare manifestation of elementalism as more commonly similar effects are achieved through a hyper-concentration towards a single element. But in cases such as is with Ceres, while they are unable to individually manipulate the cardinal elements of Fulgurn magic, their specialization allows them to achieve awkward but often times more efficient spellcasting even when attempting to achieve effects similar to either Ignis or Aeris magic.

Striking, like a thunderbolt

A fundamental difference between the lightning seen within a rainstorm caused by friction between water molecules and the aetheric properties of Fulgurn lighting and electrostatic-like spellcasting is sheer potency. Ceres is able to store vast quantities of aspected aether within their elemental shell and breathe this refined aether back out into the world around them. Like how plantlife converts carbon dioxide and water into oxygen, Elementals are able to take stagnant or warped aether and refine it back into a more sustainable form. As benign as this process generally is, the suddenness and strength of the reaction in doing so is precisely the source of an elemental’s power.

Elemental Shell

Another key trait to the elemental race is that after the aether they collect has become stable enough, it enters into a cooled, almost resting state much as how aetheric crystals are formed. This crystallized aether collects around the surface of the elemental’s form acting similarly to an exoskeleton; This hardened exterior serves the purpose of making them resistant to both physical and magical attacks. However, once an elemental begins to utilize their abilities beyond the equalization of the resting state, this shell will begin to crack and flake off as the input and output of aether is too quick to allow a proper settling. In the event that an elemental’s aetheric output exceeds their input, they will begin to draw on the aether they store to manifest their own consciousness and physical form. If this reserve is to be completely depleted, the elemental will cease to exist. In contrast, as long as there is aether to sustain them, an elemental can survive for lifetimes.

Elemental Breathing

Combining the aforementioned unique racial properties, Elementals use their aether breathing to channel the flow of aether and empower it through rhythm and harmony much like a song in norman tradition. Because of this, elemental spells have adopted a musical nomenclature with variable spells acting as verses, fixed spells being a chorus, and spells which mediate between these movements being a bridge. When these sections are performed contiguously, each part becomes incredibly more potent and may even adopt additional properties as it becomes part of an elemental song.

Magnum Cleansing Sharp

Ceres’ Magnum Opus, a distinct spell or ability entirely unique to the magus who has developed it as a rite of passage to obtain their Perfectus Magia. The specifics of the spell are unknown, but its aetheric properties suggest that it is an elemental breathing technique which causes a collapse of all the “dirty aether” in the immediate area towards a fixed point with such force that anything caught in its area of effect is atomized almost immediately after the spell is cast, enveloped in a deafening light and aftershock.
