Veronica grew up as a relatively privileged noblewoman in the Tilfland colony of Cleden. Her life was especially enriched by the birth of her younger sister, whom she immediately took into her heart. From a young age, Veronica knew that even as a colonial noblewoman, she would not escape an arranged marriage. However, she had least hoped that her suitor would be Lohan van Siegens, duke of the West Halls. When he visited her family’s estate, his gaze immediately fell on Veronica’s sister, who was only 15 at the time. Determined to protect her, Veronica tried everything in her power to catch his eye and spark his interest. This led to their marriage, and in her new home, Veronica did her best to avoid drawing too much attention while trying to satisfy her new family. Yet despite her efforts, she often incurred the wrath of her volatile husband merely by her presence.
When a solution finally crossed her path many months later, Veronica had almost lost hope for a peaceful life. However, Walerian, who introduced himself as a distant relative, seemed, with his odd behavior, to be her key to freedom. She befriended him and offered to help him in his search for his true origins. Walerian, who was genuinely seeking the truth of his lineage, became the perfect opportunity for Veronica to rid herself of a 400-pound burden—when a dispute arose between him, Lohan, and her mother-in-law, Veronica seized a hidden dagger.
After committing the double homocide, she fled with Walerian and has been attempting to disappear on the continent of Ozusira ever since, with prosecuters breathing down her neck.
