Profile
Name: Michael Tseung Chih-Ming [蔣志明, approximation]
Nicknames: Mike, Mikey, and soon a nickname so scathing he’ll just have to cope.
Age: A Nimble 29, that’s one-year off a 30’s crisis!
Pronouns: The Guy Ones– He/Him, doubt this changes.
Height: 5’7” [170cm]
Occupation: Previously an electronics salesman in Mong Kok. A screenwriter, now– Shockingly not at his own volition.
Something of an aspiring screenwriter-cum-director, Michael [Usually just abbreviated to Mike, or Mikey] is an alumnus of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts– Bachelor of Fine Arts [Hons.] in Film and Television. His chosen field hasn’t been particularly kind by any means, and he's settled for a life in selling electronics and household appliances.
Most of his endeavors have dried up, much to his disappointment.
Maybe contemporary romance wasn’t exactly what the public was looking for at the time– He should’ve made the pivot into action by now. His agent hasn’t been particularly helpful, no. He’s let him go in good faith. But one last appeal before he walks.
He’s nearing his 30’s, and desperation for more begins to creep up on him in a truly perturbing sort of way. Staring down at the glass cabinets full of knick-knacks for the next four decades shocks him into action– Like cold water in his face. And so he sells his script to the first bidder who takes it. Carelessly, he glazes over the conditions, accepts a lesser role, and then some. He could work with just being a screenwriter. It would make for a good stepping stone towards director.
He heard the director would be some up-and-coming mogul’s son. Of course, he’d be expected to do all the work with half the glory and a lot of arm-twisting. Mikey hasn’t taken well to the idea of his script being flipped, made a bit more palatable. He’s gone and argued about it time and time again. Perhaps he should’ve checked beforehand– Clearly this endeavor had triad ties. Hindsight bias.
He’d leave, but they aren’t letting him go easily. They’ve threatened that they’d make him a nobody if he does. The industry is all about connections, after all. And he’s taken a liking to the actress they casted [In his words, ‘The only thing they’ve done right,’]. It almost seems like a thankless job to re-write her scenes back into the script, but it’s one he diligently commits to– Even if it earns him another stupid fight with the producers and [another] busted lip.
Call it vicarious how he lives through her co-actor– Maybe a bit strange, a bit awkward when he sits in his chair out of frame and watches. He is jealous, for the record but hasn’t really confronted the feeling yet because why should he? Be a man.
Of good standing with the other folk, namely light and sound techies who insist he come for KTV and drinks. He usually relents– Usually, not always because he can't bear the teasing [all in good fun]. Mikey should probably drop the heavy rotation of Jacky Cheung, though.
