Dislikes: Japan (Due to bad memories she dislikes the country, not the people), Shitty ghost hunter shows, people who put fish in tiny bowls, mayo, cereal, badly seasoned food, bad pet owners, strict families, math   

Personality: Mei is a bit of a troublemaker. She's very smart and having been around for centuries, she's accumulated quite a lot of knowledge. Instead of being productive with her brain, she tends to use to to trick people. Scamming people, gaslighting others, or even driving them to insanity are all within the realm of her day to day activities. Orginally Mei was quite a sweet girl and that fact still shines through on occasions but as a revenant, bad behavior is almost addictive. The only way for her to keep the intense anger/feelings of abandonment that stem from her death at bay is to punish and torment the living. 

After successful hauntings, Mei is much calmer.  She tends to treat those moments as her days off from "work". During them, she spends her time hanging out with humans she's befriended online and caring for her many pets. The small apartment she inhabits is full of caged songbirds (Dead, only she/other supernatural beings can see them) and a large 150 gallon reef tank. All of her babies are well taken care of and any of her fish that die are simply moved to her "ghost tank" which is a small 40 gallon tank that appears empty to normal mortal eyes. It's actually filled with dead coral/creatures. Online, she presents herself as a slightly snarky but typical gamer. She's always current with a game's meta and frequent forum poster.  Thankfully, she dislikes memes/twitch chat speak even if she frequents the places where it's commonly used. 

Mei would also do competitive gaming if it didn't require IDs/an actual traceable identity. 

Background: 

- Born in 430AD in june. Place of birth was Luoyang, China. 

- Youngest daughter of a wealthy merchant family. Two older brothers. 

- Fell ill with an ear/lung infection while her family was visiting Japan. 

- Family returned to China without her, leaving her in the care of family friends. 

- Died at the age of 18 of the infection. 

- A plum tree was planted in her honor. Spirit inhabited it for many years. 

- When the tree was cut down, she was released. 

- Very weak spirit who fed off the energy of those who lived in the nearby manor. 

- Spent around a thousand years haunting the same manor/local village and slowly gaining power. 

- Eventually grew bored and tailed along with one of her victims overseas. 

- Returned to China and stuck with the same victim until she eventually caused thier death. 

- Gained the ability to manifest into a sort of human form. Only for short periods of time. 

- Seduced men for money and then strengthened her powers by slowly killing her lovers. 

- Finally left China in the 1920s. Headed to the US with a wealthy British expat. 

- Convinced her lover to get her a private education. Actually fell for him.

- Ended up giving into her urges and killing him. Took a good amount of his money and disappeared.

- Bounced between states, exploring new cultures and perfecting her english. 

- Once women were allowed to attend college, she immediately manipulated her way into enrolling.

- Continued a pattern of disappearing and moving across the country. Would renroll into school each time. 

- Currently attempting to earn a degree in computer science. Slowed down by the fact she hates math. 

 

Powers:

 - Levitation: Of herself and small objects.

- Illusions:  Only minor illusions of things in the corner of people's eyes, scary creatures flashing on the tv between shows, etc. Auditory illusions as well. 

- Manifestation/De-manifestation: Mei can switch between a solid mortal like form and her normal ghost form. In her ghost form her eyes glow a bright yellow and she is semi-transparent. Her powers are generally stronger in that form. In her human form, Mei's powers are extremely weak. She also looks completely normal besides her eye color and very pale skin. She always smells faintly of plum blossoms.
