HISTORY

For as long as Gabe could remember, he was hungry. He had been a stray Sushi Dog ever since he was born from the magic of Inekami, and chose to make himself at home on the streets where he was born. He made friends with all the other Sushi Dogs he could find in the area, both stray and domestic. However, while his mind and heart were nourished with friendship and love, he could never soothe the hunger in his stomach for long.

One day in particular, Gabe was desperate for a meal and wandered much further than he normally did in search of food. During his travel, he caught a delightful smell in the wind, which beckoned him to a bakery he had never seen before. Upon searching near the trash, Gabe found a plethora of perfectly edible baked goods that had been thrown out due to mild damage in transportation. Excitedly, he ate until he felt his belly would burst, and then ran back to tell his friends the excellent news! From Gabe's discovery stemmed a newfound hope for Sushi Dogs without a home. Gabe and his stray friends began to relocate to live close to the bakery, and over the span of a few years, ate together daily and became closer to each other because of it.

Every dinner together was a wonderful celebration of friendship and cuisine, and the small group of strays decided to officially become a family.

The owner of the bakery, a jolly, middle-aged woman who enjoyed her line of work, began to notice the family in the dumpster daily. Since they were a small and peaceful group who caused no trouble, and actually did her a favor by making sure the thrown out food didn't go to waste and rot, she decided that she was content having them around. On her evening work breaks, she would go outside to witness the laughs, songs, and stories that the family would share over dinner. The bakery owner found it to be beautiful and inspiring, and felt ashamed that the family was simply eating out of the trash. The next morning, she arrived at work half an hour early and put dozens and dozens of fresh baguettes in the oven - however, these baguettes were much smaller to suit her tiny friends!

Gabe and his family were, at first, confused and bewildered by the baguettes. There was a mountain of them stacked high on a plate left out just for them, still radiating warmth from being baked fresh that same morning. Gabe and his family sampled some and found that they were delicious, warm, and fluffy - however, no matter how yummy they were, there was just too many to eat! It was then that Gabe came up with a plan, refusing to allow such a luxury to go to waste. He remembered how hungry he had been on the streets way farther from here, and how many strays must have accumulated over the years since he and his family had moved. Although it was an extremely long walk for such tiny legs, Gabe took one small loaf in his mouth and ran all the way back to his hometown.

One by one, a stray was fed. Gabe ran back and forth all day - he could only carry one at a time, but was determined to distribute this much needed, freshly baked food to those who were hungry. Upon delivery, he offered any stray he saw to come back to the bakery with him to live with the family. Some were happy to, while others chose to stay behind due to a variety of personal reasons. Eventually, all the loaves of bred had been eaten by someone, and Gabe finally slept. He was exhausted, but happy.

Gabe's kindness did not go unnoticed by the bakery owner, who saw him uncharacteristically zooming back and forth all day, each time with a new loaf, and sometimes returning with a hungry new friend. The bakery owner stayed up all night and knit Gabe - and all of his family - small satchels to carry multiple loaves in at a time. She continued to cook dozens of tiny baguettes every day, enough to feed the family and the strays from far away places.

With the addition of the satchel and with the help of his whole family, Gabe now makes it his morning routine to deliver bread to those who need it. With many sets of helping paws and hands, it now only takes him a small portion of his morning to feed the hungry, and he finds nothing more fulfilling than doing so! His job brings him countless opportunities to make new friends and bond with new family members, while giving him an ultimate feeling of fulfillment.
