Personality

Despite his attitude, Devon is cunning and enjoys teasing others. He likes flirting, and while it’s usually nothing serious, he is charmed by humans enough to potentially consider engaging with one for a long period of time. He claims to enjoy ‘playing’ with them, but truthfully, he is a mild demon; the tricks and games reserved to humans are usually innocuous at best and annoying at worst.

He prefers to keep his usual appearance, despite his habits of wearing human clothes. Devon can appear human if necessary. He will conceal his identity, at least for a short while, when he is planning to visit locals and other crowded places. Observing humans is something he considers a fun activity. It helps him find new potential ‘business’ partners.

Intro

Lesser demons need to make a name for themselves before they can have a proper place in their hierarchy. Everyone starts somewhere. They start making contracts and tricking humans--with varying degrees of success. Such creatures can walk the Earth alongside humans, their powers small enough to go unnoticed to (most) unwary humans or lurk in the shadows waiting for someone willing to contact them.

Of the many things a demon can do, only a handful of them are fun. That’s what Devon thinks, at least, to justify his decision to stay in the world of the living for as long as possible. There are so many distractions, so many games to play with humans… Why should he work only to go back to his original dimension? The honor doesn’t seem enough to justify the effort.

Devon is, of course, not his real name. He ‘borrowed’ it from the first man who attempted to have a deal with him. Being his first contact with humanity outside the demonic realm, he was impressed by the wonders around him. Elder demons had described humans as simple, but their frail and flawed humans made them look interesting in his eyes.

While technically still in contact with the higher ranks who sent him there, he is not in a hurry to please them. Devon is not powerful enough to claim soul or bound humans to him for a long time. Most of the times, he will offer his services in exchange for basic contracts, which mostly provide him with limited power over the contractor. As he is working for himself, mostly, he is known for occasionally requesting humans goods -- after all, he wants to enjoy what human society has to offer.

Due to his rank, his powers are limited. He cannot subvert the natural order, but he is specialized in illusions and charms. He can influence people’s emotions for a certain amount of time. The amount of power and effort necessary influence the duration and precision.
