The Smoldering Dunes has a very extensive archeology division, in which Rami works. He's good at his job, but has never quite excelled to a level of fame that some of the others have. It seems like the others are simply lucky, finding many of the good artifacts that get them incredible recognition.
Of course, this is entirely by Rami's design. As becoming famous for your finds means that more watchful eyes are upon you. And Rami would prefer that everyone kept their eyes elsewhere.
Some of the better artifacts that Rami has found have been seen by the group leaders, as he has a tendency to swiftly pocket them. Only the less impressive finds make their way to the table for inspection. This has afforded Rami the ability to get paid more than the salary he receives as an archeologist, because of course he sells these swiped finds on the black market.
Does Rami feel guilt for what he's doing? Not particularly. The people who owned these things are long gone, and he's sure they wouldn't mind making sure that he's got a cool home and food on his table.
