Fun Facts:
- Bai is typically never seen without his mask on. He wears it 24/7 while greeting guests at the shrine, so most believe the mask is part of his face and could not even be removed if he wanted to.
- He collects teacups! He specifically collects teacups with dragon patterns and lifted paint. He absolutely hates boring teacups, and will only accept teacup offerings if they are unique in design or shape.
- He is unable to leave the grounds of his shrine.
- People often visit Bai's shrine seeking luck in their gambling adventures; if they bring a guest with them, they'll often have their own luck doubled while the guest appears to obtain bad luck instead...
Baisuzu has been imprisoned in his shrine for many years; so long in fact, that no one remembers the history behind his imprisonment in the first place. Bai took advantage of this fact to reinvent his shrine and his image, parading himself as a new lucky cat spirit hoping to build his own shrine to gain followers and support from humans. Eventually, this new rumor spread, and now Bai's shrine is bustling with activity, mainly from those wishing to get more luck in their gambling ventures.
Before the Deception
Baisuzu wasn't always parading himself as a lucky cat. He actually used to be pretty open about his dainty and kitsune background. However, as a side effect of being a kitsune, Baisuzu can cause horrible bad luck to occur around him. His nature is to cause chaos and mischief, and while he likes it sometimes, the bad luck kept him from keeping relationships, both platonic and romantic.
The Incident
One day, Baisuzu attempted to contain his bad luck for an entire day in order to court an individual. The day went extremely well, and the individual even commented to Bai that his reputation for bad luck was undeserved, fondly calling him a lucky cat instead. However, after holding in his bad luck all day, he became overwhelmed and all of the bad luck escaped his body at one point, causing [REDACTED]. For causing this event, Bai was imprisoned in his shrine, unable to leave the grounds. He appears to guests as a kitsune statue most of the time, unless they are requesting luck, which is when he "appears" in his "lucky cat" form. The event happened so long ago now that the people of today do not know the history behind his shrine.

You know, sheep's clothing is surprisingly comfortable.
Work in Progress! Will update with more lore eventually!
Baisuzu is a kitsune disguising himself as a lucky cat. In actuality, he's using this guise to collect luck for himself by stealing it from others. Using dainty magic, he's able to solidify others' luck into solid gold coins that he hides inside his shrine. He's amassing all of this luck for a specific purpose involving the incident that led him to be imprisoned in his own shrine, unable to leave the grounds, all those years ago.
