She has a substance called tar in her that she transmits via oral contact (kissing, spitting etc) here is a documentation of her power by Connelly, the camp nurse that witnessed all of this when he was a camper in the late 90s; Tar and its Effects -documented by Connelly O'Day and Dell Kennedy, March 19th, 1996, four weeks after the attack on camp, continued for two years, ending in 1998. Tar is a very thick, black, slightly shiny black sludge. It can be seen moving slightly, one could describe it as vibrating sometimes. Tar is a very dangerous, somewhat addictive substance. Inhaling the smell of it will cause dizziness, irritability and fainting. Consuming the tar will cause drastic personality changes, such as enhanced anger, sadness, self harm, or erratic behaviour. Tar could be considered somewhat similar to mercury. If around it for too long, even the smell could drive you mad. Tar comes from a constant source, laying in a cave in the woods. It it warm, and bubbles slightly. It has preserving qualities, hence why hosts, such as Morana, rarely age. The tar is a parasite. It will give its host this semi immortality for its own benefit, and if the host loses the parasite, they will begin to age as normal again. Tar is an addictive substance, anyone consuming it will likely want more, craving the power and freedom it gives them. If a victim consumes more than a cup of tar, a core will begin to form. Tar core A Tar core is a hard mass resting in the heart. It does not prevent the heart from doing certain important functions, like you know, beating, but it slows other organs down a bit, creating more energy to pump the heart and circulate more and more tar. Although tar is usually transmitted orally, it will leak into the body, first by coating the stomach, giving the victim a severe flu like sickness, and then dispersing into the blood once the victim's immune system is weakened, So, When a core begins to form, the victim will become seemingly fatally ill, as the core is taking over everything. Every vein, every organ, even making it to the brain, and coating the saliva. Ways to tell the infected Tar takes time to take their victim, however in some cases, it only takes a few days. Tar makes people angrier, not stupider. Many victims will manipulate and attack when their next target is weak. Here are some ways to tell the infected from the healthy. * Always look to the eyes. Even if their eyes appear the usual, their pupils will be unnaturally small, and they will be looking around constantly, unable to focus their eyes on one thing unless it's prey. If they are fully in attack mode, their eyes will be a pure black, white pupils the only thing that show. These pupils are small, and glow, giving their host some type of vision, as when this happens, they get more and more irritated. There is no telling how they view the world. * Smell. They are likely to smell of mild chemicals, especially their breath. Their body however, smells of lavender, likely a trick the tar sets out to make people more comfortable. * Listen. The victim is likely to begin to talk different. Because the tar is thick and coats the mouth and throat, the voice will change, often times sounding distorted or gravelly, sometimes, in times of true turmoil, the victim will snap away from the tar, and at that time, it will sound as though there are two voices talking at once. How it affects Tar can infect anyone, but it affect them in different ways. Here is some documented cases of how it affected people 4-19 * Children (4-9)- The children become irritable and bratty, often crying or screaming, fighting with each other, and biting. Nothing out of the normal, uninfected children act like that. The one thing that stands out is the fact they will cause pain and bloodshed amongst themselves and feel no remorse, even after seeing the damage done. * Preteens (10-12)- They become darker, more interested in self harm and self deprecation than any other age group, likely because of the rush of hormones that hit them. They will fight amongst each other, and always go to leave scars and ugly the people they are fighting. Their Main motive is to become superior, especially the females. * Teens (13-17) They are similar to preteens, but focus on leaving their enemy in emotional pain. They will strike using words, and often violence as well. Fighting in this group is heavily swung to the males, while females seem to take true joy in tormenting either gender. Males who are weaker will switch to the female tactic, causing inner pain and suffering, and when their enemy is in a weakened, vulnerable position, they will strike quickly and effectively. They seem to enjoy self harm as well, and often encourage it amongst themselves. * Adults (18-19) though still technically in the teen range, 18 and 19 seems to be drastically differentiated. This group is relatively silent, but effective. They use scare tactics, coming off as "creepy". They utilise things from other age groups, such as a severe lack of remorse, encouraging self harm, committing self harm, and irrational behaviour. These infected people tend to become less controlled than the others, and they are the ones who usually crave more tar. They are usually feeling free from their new adult tasks and responsibilities and want more, and most of the time, these are the ones who infect each other more and more. They will pass tar amongst each other, and usually, a clear leader will emerge. They are like soldiers, and feel a need to help each other in different ways, so long as they share tar, the eagerness to harm themselves and egging others on to do so diminishes. Duration of infection Small amounts of tar without a constant source will lose its power in a few weeks, maybe a month. People with low immune systems or illness will be under the tar longer, and be infected much faster and easier. Healthy people, or those with fire abilities will be infected for much less time, unless they are physically submerged in the tar for a few hours. The tar will mimic drowning, and the victim will become unconscious, and the tar can take over, quickly creating a core and defeating the fire inside the person. Core hosts will take years to lose all the symptoms and go back to normal, but so long as they are kept away from the steady source, they will begin to cough up chunks of the tar and slowly heal from it. Cure There is yet to be a cure. How to prevent yourself from contracting Tar Here are a few ways to prevent yourself from being the next victim * Avoid those who have turned. Even if it is your loved one, avoid them and keep them away from your mouth. They will try to infect you, even if you don't think they will. Children will especially try, using innocence and tears to manipulate. * Trust no one. If you suspect someone you know is under the tar's effects, tell someone immediately and avoid them until you are told by others he person is fine. Even then, stay on your toes. * If you suspect YOU are infected, tell someone immediately, and try to induce vomiting. While it may not get rid of the tar right away, it will get rid of some, thus making your down time less long. * Pray to whatever God you believe in that a cure is found. If this tar gets out into the rest of the world, it is only inevitable that an apocalypse will fall onto earth. Past: Morana, or Violet legally, was born and raised in Gary Indiana. She was born in the hospital at about 6:00 am, and had to be placed on the premature baby unit, as she was born about 3 weeks early. Her mother had been doing crack cocaine during her pregnancy, which transferred to Violet, deeming her a "Crack Baby" which caused her small body to tremble and shake due to withdrawals. She did not start life well. She was kept in the hospital and given to a foster family when she was cleared off the drugs. She stayed with that family for about two years. The Devins, the foster family who cared for her, were loving and sweet, she was pampered and loved, very spoiled. But soon enough her mother was deemed clean and able to take her back. That's where Violet met her older sister, Celeste. Celeste dealt with the foster care system as well, only being a year old when Violet was born and her mother was taken away. The sisters grew close, but their mother, Caroline, very much favoured Celeste. She treated Celeste with love and tender care, giving her anything she wanted. Violet on the other hand, Caroline saw as the reason she got caught doing drugs, so she treated her a bit less than kind. She did however give Violet her first gift, a sweet sheepdog pup named Boris. Boris became Violet's best friend, her protector. But just as things began to look up, things grew dark. Celeste became similar to her mother, discriminating against Violet. She would hit and smack her over toys and games, and Caroline did nothing. Soon, Caroline dived down the path of drugs once more, pain killers and meth, as well as beer. Things in the house quickly began to deteriorate. Celeste knew this and mainly stayed at friends homes, leaving Violet to deal with their mother. When Violet was about 10, her mother finally snapped, blaming Violet for everything. She sliced off Violet's hair, something she loved so much. She then put Boris down with a single shot of a gun, telling Violet she deserved to be alone. This absolutely broke Violet, and caused the first seeds of hate and regret to burrow into her personality. This even caused her powers to unlock. Violet was born to a world of rage and hate, Where not even the person she was supposed to trust most wanted anything to do with her. Her body began to show spots of black, mostly on her hands and feet, some on her neck. These black spots would drip into shadows, creating them to spring to life, in the forms of small creatures with glowing white eyes. Violet began to use these creatures to have something to look forward to every day. Every day she came home to a mother that did not want her, a mother that blamed her on a meth and alcohol induced rage. Soon enough, at age 12, Violet came home to her mother being quiet for once. Celeste was at her friends house of course. Violet found that whenever she asked her mother a question she didn't answer. Violet did everything she couldn't before, eat from the fridge, watch cartoons, and jump on the couch. She went to shake her mother to get her up to take her outside, but she realised her mother was cold. That her eyes were open and staring up. Violet felt not sadness, but a heavy relief wash over her. She threw a blanket over her mother and tucked her in, grabbing a pair of scissors and snipping off her mother's long hair, as if taking an eye for an eye. She didn't want to go with another family, so she decided to run away and leave her hateful sister Celeste to deal with everything alone. She packed a backpack with a stuffed dog and some candy and ran away, sneaking onto trains and traveling as much as she could. She eventually saw some woods that seemed like a good resting spot. She found the camp within a few hours, and was gladly taken in after demonstrating her strange powers. After a while in camp, about three months she found two friends to hang out with, Mocha and Logan. Both were about her age, and they got along well. Violet even began to develop a crush on Logan, but was constantly confused by Mocha, and the feelings Mocha made her feel. Violet tried her best to hide these feelings, and ignored them as much as she could. One day, the three friends were playing around in the woods. While they were exploring deep in the woods, they got separated. It was growing dark. So Violet began to get worried. Finally, Violet found Mocha, who'd thankfully brought a flashlight. They found Logan, who was sitting in a small cave, since it began to rain lightly. The girls slipped inside the cave, Violet clinging to Mocha more than usual, mostly because she was cold. Logan grew a tad jealous, and offered his hoodie to her. She accepted it, which stirred a little jealousy in Mocha. Violet didn't even notice, and was more focused on a large pit in the cave. She crouched down and looked into it. The pit looked filled with sludge. Mocha and Logan began to get a little louder at arguing, which finally caught the attention of Violet. Violet tried to step in between them, but that just made the argument escalate. Mocha broke out into angry German, Logan, who didn't understand, yelled angrily back. Mocha began to get physically violent, grabbing Logan's shirt and yanking him closer. Logan grabbed Mocha's hair, and soon the two began to wrestle on the ground. Logan and Mocha kicked their feet in unison, trying to kick each other, but, instead, kicked Violet. Violet didn't even seem to register it at first, but flailed as soon as she did. She fell back, crashing right into the sludgy pit. She screamed and wailed, trying to crawl out, but the sludge seemed to drag her down. Logan and Mocha stopped fighting, scrambling over to try to grab her out, but she only sank faster. Lightning struck, a loud boom of thunder sounded as Violet's hand vanished beneath the black sludge. She had sank all the way down. Mocha and Logan panicked, blaming each other. Soon, they ran back to camp, swearing each other into silence. Of course, others noticed Violet was missing, and a search party was sent out. When she wasn't found, they chalked it up to her running away. Mocha and Logan kept their dark secret for about a year, until Mocha began to see glimpses of long black hair, and piercing teal eyes appearing in the shadows. She was hunting for slugs on a rainy day, when she bumped into someone. Mocha glanced up, and to her horror, it was a sludge covered Violet, glaring down at her. Mocha assumed it was a ghost. Mocha asked Violet what she wanted, pleading to be spared from pain. Violet demanded Mocha to find or make clothing for her. Something elegant and comfortable. Mocha obeyed, spending another year working on a long, beautiful kimono, staying up many nights in a row, feigning sickness just to work on it. She was glad now she learned to sew back home. Late one fall night, she crept back into the woods, waiting for Violet to appear. She soon approached, the sludge had been washed off. Mocha helped her friend dress, thankful that she wasn't dead at least. Violet wasn't her usual self though. She began to speak lower, more menacingly. Her attitude became spiteful and cruel, her vibes dark and sinister. Mocha became intoxicatingly interested in her change and feel. Mocha herself wasn't a great person. She liked physical harm, and often "accidentally" hurt other campers, especially Logan. More and more, she began to stick by Violet, and even gave her the nickname Morana, a name that meant darkness and evil. Mocha and Morana became the dark aura that slowly began to invade the camp. One by one, campers were vanishing, shoes and jewellery were found tossed in the lake or in the meadows. Bodies were never found though. Only a handful of people were left, Logan one of them. Morana decided to visit Logan one day, and when she was spotted, Logan barely even recognised her. They talked for a while, and soon, he too was entranced by her evil ways. The three friends were reunited, but no longer were they sweet children at play. Now they were dark people with darker secrets. Darkness at wait for the perfect time to strike again.
