Personality

Qi's friendly to everyone he meets - a little overly friendly, and prone to oversharing. Andromeda does her best to keep him in check, but he has a tendency to throw information around, due to his trusting nature. He tries very hard to stay positive, often abruptly changing the topic if a conversation takes a darker turn. Since he grew up without much (positive) contact with others, he doesn't exactly have the best social skills, but he doesn't let that stop him. He's unfamiliar with many things, though, and usually doesn't pick up on it if someone is hitting on him.

On the inside, Qi's tired and angry. He represses most negative emotions, but his anger boils up in short bursts - usually to disastrous effects. He also shows a strong aversion to arguments, and will always try to diffuse any that occur, sometimes forcefully. He also has attempted to take his own life on more than occasion, but Andromeda always stepped in to prevent it.

His relationship with Andromeda is more than a little complicated. He simultaneously appreciates her for being his only friend, but resents her for being the reason he doesn't have any other friends. He usually listens to her guidance, but they always disagree on one front in particular - she always wants him to fight back, but he never wants to hurt anyone, on the grounds that it's natural to hate him [in regards to being Andromeda's vessel]. She pushes him to use his power to the full extent and embrace himself for what he is, but he wishes that he'd just been born normal. Andromeda is also the only person he will willingly fight with; while he usually will do anything to diffuse any other situation, when it comes to Andromeda, he is prone to shouting and stubbornly resisting whatever she wants to do.

As a Selkie, Qi also has a tendency to be drawn to the sea. He often swims when he's upset, in his seal form if possible. He tries to keep being a Selkie a secret, though, and usually tries to pass himself off as human, disregarding the small fangs that jut out with "I don't know, they're just kind of like that".

Backstory

Long before Qi was born, Andromeda, the goddess of the moon (also referred to as the Lady of the Moon), was wreaking havoc on the world - especially on his tribe, who lived far to the north. They sought the help of the goddess Seaos, who joined with them to lock her away; however, on the night of a double full moon, the moons gave her enough power to escape. This was also the night of Qi's birth. Realizing she would be locked away again the moment her power faded, she took Qi as a vessel. His tribe was unable to stop this, but couldn't harm Andromeda without harming Qi, which was strictly forbidden.

And so, Qi grew up as an outcast to his tribe; his mother rejected him, using her chieftain duties as an excuse, and his father outright stated that he didn't want such a cursed child. He was delegated to his aunt, who resented him, not wanting or expecting to have a child. She raised him coldly, expecting him to essentially raise himself from a young age and doling out punishments often without rhyme or reason. He was no more well-liked among other members of his tribe, no matter how hard he tried. He excelled at hunting in his attempt to earn his place among them, but he (and his aunt, by extension) was still pushed to the fringes of society. The other children of the tribe, and sometimes the teens and young adults, would often target him, and he initially refused to let Andromeda hurt them in retribution, until during one attack she forcibly possessed him to fight back. After that, he was mostly left alone.

When he was around twelve, Qi strove to impress his parents. He first approached his mother, pleading that he could look after himself now, so he could be her son again; she rejected him harshly, telling him that she'd never had a son to begin with. He approached his father next, to a much more disastrous result. His father threatened to kill Qi if he ever came near him again, and this caused Andromeda to possess him and lash out, unwilling to let anyone harm her vessel. She killed him and, when Qi came to, convinced him to hide the body. The tribe eventually moved on from that camp, and he was left with the guilt.

Eventually [as of the campaign he's in], at the age of 20, he decided he didn't want to stay where he wasn't wanted. He traveled to South Dakota, where he found a place to stay with Jorgel and Estel.
